Leaving Corfu

You will depart from Corfu International Airport, also known as Ioannis Kapodistrias Airport, which is located approximately 1 mile south of the city's centre. Aegean Airlines and Olympic Air offer direct flights between Corfu and Athens. When making flight arrangements, remember that air traffic peaks between April and October because of an increase in the number of charter flights. With 400 regular parking spaces and two handicapped slots, parking at the airport is limited; therefore, the most convenient way to reach the airport is by taxi or bus. Two city bus lines have stops located outside the airport. If you want to grab a snack or drink before boarding your plane, stop at the café bar located in the terminal. During the summer, a 24-hour full-service restaurant operates on site.

You can get from the airport to a variety of destinations throughout Athens by train, bus, taxi, or rental car. The train station is connected to the airport, so you can reach it easily. The current fare is about €8 per person for a ride into the centre of the city, and trains run every 30 minutes. Taxis are available outside of the arrivals terminal. They offer transportation to the city's centre for a flat rate of €35 during the day and €50 at night. Four bus lines provide service to destinations throughout Athens. If you prefer to drive yourself, five car rental companies have on-site locations at the airport, including Hertz and Sixt.

Athens experiences mild, wet winters, with the average low dropping to 5°C in January and February. Most rainfall occurs between October and April. Although snowstorms are infrequent, they can cause major disruptions in the city. Summers are hot and dry, with average highs in the low 30s from June through August. July and August are the driest months.

Visitors to the city can find plenty of ways to fill their days and nights. History buffs can explore the city's monuments and museums, including the Acropolis and the National Archaeological Museum.
