Cairo International Airport
Cairo International Airport approximately 9 miles from the central business district. It is a huge airport with over 65 carriers, including EgyptAir that has its central hub there. There are four terminals, including one hall in Terminal 1 that is specifically for private jets. During the annual Islamic pilgrimage, Hajj, traffic into Cairo Airport skyrockets. This is due to the availability of low-cost connecting flights to Medina, which is closest to Mecca, where Hajj takes place. During this time a seasonal terminal is opened up to help facilitate the increased demand for flights.
