When you arrive in Liverpool, you'll fly to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The airport was originally called Speke Airport, as it was built on the grounds of Speke Hall in Liverpool. The airport was renamed in 2002 after legendary Beatle's musician and singer/songwriter John Lennon. There are several Beatles-themed art installations at the airport, including a bronze statue of Lennon located in the check-in hall. The airport is located about 7.5 miles southeast of downtown Liverpool. The airport provides domestic service throughout the UK as well as international service to destinations within Europe.
Transportation into Town
There are various ways to get into town. The Arriva Bus Service provides bus service into town, including bus routes 500, 501, 80A and 86A. Fares are between £1.60 and £2, or $2.50 and $3. Make sure to check the schedules for your particular route, but the buses tend to run about every 30 minutes. If you'd like to take a taxi into town, prepare to pay about £15, or $23. The ride will take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes, depending on traffic. The Hunts Cross train station is the closest train station to the airport, and it provides plenty of train service into the centre of town.

Liverpool has a typical, British Isles temperate climate. This means that summers tend to be pretty cool, and winters can be mild. Average summer temperatures range from 17°C to 20°C. Temperatures in winter usually range from 3°C to 6°C. Whatever time of year it is, bring your umbrella because Liverpool gets its fair share of rainy, English weather. Liverpool is exciting year-round, but winters can get very little sun. If you're a sun worshipper, stick to the summer months.

If you're more of a John fan, you can head to Mendips, the home that John lived in from 1945 until 1963. Diehard football fans can head over to Anfield Stadium, home of Liverpool FC. The club encourages fans to visit the stadium during the off-season so that they can tour the grounds and learn about the history of the club. For something a lot more off the beaten path, check out artist Antony Gormley's ‘Another Place’ art installation at Crosby Beach. One hundred cast iron figures created in the artist's own image stand vigil on the beach, gazing out to sea.
