Perfectly Relaxing Week

Amsterdam Manor was absolutely the perfect place for us. Quiet. Peaceful. Relaxing. Beautiful. Great location. Best beach in Aruba. What more could we ask for? If we had stayed at a high rise I would be writing a different review. Folks from the high rises (and the cruise ships) were at "our" beach to get away from the crowds...and kids. No glitz and glamour here. Just good, clean, comfortable rooms with great service and friendly staff. When we wanted excitement, shopping, fancy restaurants, or crowds the bus was very convienent. Having the kitchenette was a real money saver. We didn't cook meals--we were on vacation after all--but we were able to prepare breakfast and some days a light lunch. We're beach people and the Amsterdam Manor fit the bill.

We spent a wonderful afternoon on a catamaran called the Black Pearl. Wonderful experience and a very good value. Sailing, snorkeling, food, drinks, sunset, romantic...what else can I say?

Needs additional staff

Excellent beach; very nice room accomodations; timely and efficient maid service; good food quality for lunch but the eating area needs more attention and staff; too many birds and flies and the live in iguana above your head and then around your table needs to be diminished or eliminated; beach dining in the evening was superb with great food and service; breakfast needs improvement. The resort caters to large families which infringes on the couples when it is time to eat; easy access to the buses which are most reasonable in cost; the staff is friendly in response to a greeting, but few greetings are initiated which is in stark contrast to Puerto Plata. Some of the facilities were open on a hit or miss basis--more staff is needed.

Great Hospitality

We were able to enjoy the sun and relax on the beach which is only a couple steps away from the resort. This location was great--we were right in the middle of the High Rise Hotels and downtown Oranjestad with the bus stop right outside our door. You want to do one of the many excursions Aruba has to offer than stop at the Concierge desk and they can make it happen.

Perfect for a relaxing vacation

The Amsterdam Manor has terrific service - we were welcomed with rum punch and a smooth checkin. The lobby is small but has a nice book collection, and the concierge desk is staffed until 5:30pm. Three computers are available for guest use just outside the lobby. We booked a standard studio (the pictures online are all of the larger rooms), and I was disappointed in the size of the room, and the bathroom had no counter space in which to keep toiletries. Though it has a vaulted ceiling, I still felt cramped. We were offered an upgrade to another single room, but there wasn't much difference in room size. Furnishings were modern, but the tv has terrible picture quality, and you have to request a remote control from the front desk. I mentioned it was our anniversary when I called to confirm the reservation, and the reception desk indicated that they'd send a complimentary bottle of champagne to the room, but we did not receive it. Location was terrific - we had a short walk through a courtyard to the pool, which was overlooked by a deck bar. Then, the beautiful beack was across the street. The road is only 2 lanes, but during the day on the beach you do get a lot of traffic noise. We had dinner one evening at Passions on the Beach - Eagle Beach has beautiful sunsets, and it was definitely worth it. The hotel staff is the best part of this resort - they make an effort to know your name and will help with any issues or questions you have. They were very kind and welcoming.

Lovely vacation

2bedroom 2bath suite was huge - both a dining room table (sat 6) and a kitchen table. Kitchen was truly totally furnished, including coffee maker, toaster, microwave, range and full size fridge plus all cookware, utensils, dishes and salt and pepper. Getting groceries was an easy trip. Beach across the street was very nice, clean, well-maintained, lots of shade. Water was lovely. Very, very clean well-managed property. Very friendly, helpful staff. Free wifi, not always perfect but pretty darn good. Food was great at both the restaurants. The one thing that would make it a little better would be to offer an a-la-carte breakfast.

Perfect!

Awesome hotel. This Aruba trip started as a girlfriend trip for a week and then my husband flew in on the weekend. Unfortunately, there was no availability at the Amsterdam and we went (based on Fodor's reviews to the Westin in Palm Beach). The Westin is basically a short walk down the road but what a huge difference. The Amsterdam was quiet, friendly and sweet- compared to the heavy Westin traffic, never any space on the beach, and rude guests. I highly recommend the stay at Amsterdam (unless you are super high maintenance) you will love it!

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Go to the IGA or local grocery. You will pay out the (you know what) for food or drink. Many drinks are watered down and I heard this comment all over the island. The Amsterdam cleaning staff even does your dishes if you do cook in your room....wow!
