European styled in old building
It's a clean room with very high ceiling and a functional bathroom in a renovated 100 year old building ; it reminded me of a room in a London hotel. A safe, WiFi, or breakfast are extra cost. The main feature is the excellent location next to Sydney Tower and the relative low room rate.

Couple's budget Sydney visit
Masonic club rooms are rented out as a boutique hotel. Room appointments are OK. Bathroom is a retrofit with inadequate sliding door. Room was very small. At-large appointments in the hotel are funky, old-style wood paneling, etc. Nice bar, very authentic, though with starchy dress rules. Downtown location, near parks, Circular Quay, buses, trains, shopping, theatres, etc., is unbeatable.

Mixed feelings
Nice reception area. Carpets all look new. Very good location. We had a queen room which was average in size with a large bathroom. Bed comfortable enough. However, I have a few gripes. I didn't like the frosted window that couldn't be opened. This made me feel boxed in, plus the room was pretty dark. There was a noise all night long coming from outside the building which was probably the air conditioning. Their 'high speed' WiFi was so slow, I gave up.

Great Staff, Average Hotel
The staff were very nice and hospitable, letting us fill our water bottles every morning from the bar (helpful since water costs an armload and there are 3 fountains in the entire city). The room is small, with an uncomfortable bed and the scratchiest blanket ever. Shower leaked into the main room. Half the tv channels were snow. I remembered that internet was included but then the booklet said $10 a day but then the staff gave it to us for free, so who knows. Great location, a block away from Hyde Park and 15 min walk to the Opera House. If the hotel is just where you sleep and not a big focus of your vacation, I'd recommend. If you want to come back and relax and stay in a day or so, not for you.

Fabulous Location
Loved the staff and the location. Room was small but clean, and breakfast was great. Little concerned about the peeling paint and black stuff on the ceiling in the lobby, but everyone was very friendly and professional! And so easy to walk to everything!!

Half the Room for Half the Price
I needed to overnight in Sydney, and I found this 4-star hotel for half the price of other 4-star hotels in the area. I probably shouldn't have been surprised that the room was the tiniest imaginable. In order to get past the bed and reach the tiny bathroom, I needed to walk sideways; I couldn't fit walking forward. But things were otherwise what you would expect regarding cleanliness and quality. There was an elegant old dining room, and a decent buffet breakfast was also half the price you would expect in a 4-star Sydney hotel. The hotel is, by the way, also the local Masonic lodge, so look for that on the awning, not the hotel name.

Castlereagh basic room
Standard rooms do not have a window and are at the rear of the hotel, got moved to a room at the front and this was better, at least we had light. A bit of traffic noise even on 10th floor, staff friendly, great location 10 minutes to all the major sites and 2 mins to train station with links to airport, but the best and cheapest way to the airport is the hotel transfer service €16 p.p
