stylish hotel

i was only in brisbane one night, but did not want to stay way out at the airport, The Portal was in a good location, an easy walk to queen street mall shops and a little further to south bank shops. Hotel was very stylish, but very small, which was OK for me since I was alone. Super comfy beds and luxurious linens.

You get what you pay for, and

You get what you pay for, and with the Portal Hotel you don't pay a lot, and you get...well, quite a bit, but in inconvenient quantities. You can get a balcony (looking down at a driveway). You can get a king bed (and spend your entire time walking sideways around it). You can get a room littered with little things (kettle, bottled water, keyboard for the TV, glasses, etc) - but if you want a big flat surface to put a laptop or newspaper on, no luck. Valet Parking is prompt when leaving, but when going to the hotel, if the one semi-legal spot to leave your car is filled, you're parking your car temporarily in other company's driveways. Location is OK; Queen Street Mall is a downhill walk away. Breakfasts are solid, and the rooms themselves are fine, but given the executive rooms were cramped, other rooms may be minute. If you are planning to spend very little time in your room apart from sleeping, Portal Hotel is a fair and affordable choice.

The Portal is a good hotel for

The Portal is a good hotel for a short one or two night stay. The rooms are comfortable and have good facilities but they are very small. The restaurant has a very good ambience but is over-priced. The lifts are slow and often one is out of order for some reason. Nice reception staff.

Sleek Boutique!

Small but absolutely spotless - state of the art class act renovations. Restaurant bar on site. A bit of a walk to get anywhere - but bus service is free and about a block away. No pool but we weren't there to swim. Would stay there again.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

A short bus ride to Queensland Mall are two great open air restaurants right in the center of the walkway Jimmy's (sports bar). Try the Morten Bay Bugs entree and the Pig n'Whistle restaurant's meat pies. The entertainment - people watching and the food a little pricey - but excellent.

Brisbane Portal Hotel

I was in Brisbane to watch the RiverFire fireworks. The hotel is a small, clean and modern boutique place very convenient to everything. There is a small walk up a hill, but nothing too exerting. My room was small. But was fine for one person. The deal included breakfast, which was delicious. The staff were friendly and very helpful.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

On the weekend you can find parking on the street to save the $25 they charge at the hotel.

The rooms are extremely small

The rooms are extremely small but the plus was it is a new hotel. The airconditioner didnt work which made it very stuffy. The location is only good if you want to be close to the train station.Which is what we were after.
