We were very pleased with this
We were very pleased with this Hotel - very close to Central Station (2min walk), plus nicely decorated modern rooms & facilities including a rather large lcd tv. Room was on the small side (i.e. no desk, chairs or table), but that suited us fine. Didn't try the downstairs bar & restaurant but looked to be quite popular

Great location in a walkable city
A friend and I were in Brisbane for the start of our three week tour of Australia. The staff at the Portal were very friendly and accommodating. The room with twin beds was very small for two people with luggage (the smallest room we stayed in the entire trip). We were only in Brisbane a couple of nights and there to see the city, so didn't spend a lot of time in the room anyway. We found it to be within walking distance of all the sites we wanted to see (Queen Street Mall/CBD, South Bank, gardens/parks).

Short walk from hotel
The hotel is just a few blocks from Queen Street Mall/CBD, approximately a 10 min. walk from the South Bank (restaurants, arts, parkland/promenade) and the Botanic Garden. It's just a couple blocks from the Roma Street Parkland.

The room was very nicely presented
The room was very nicely presented and comfortable to stay in. The staff at reception were very helpful and pleasant to talk to and it was nice getting a newspaper each morning to read too.

Small room that reminds me of
Small room that reminds me of Tokyo. Location close to Queen Street Mall but the return walk is a steep uphill climb. Nice and quiet, good for short business trip.

The hotel is in the perfect location, we found it easy to access the city, Valley and Spring Hill here. We had a couple of small issues with the hotel, keys and breakfast etc but they were quickly rectified by the very friendly and helpful staff.

As other reviewers have said,
As other reviewers have said, the room was small (although the shower recess was huge!). Regardless, the room was well laid out, and for a single traveler, the room was more than sufficient for a week's stay. I think that it probably would have been too small to be comfortable for two people, even though it had a queen size bed. Everything was clean, the service was friendly and helpful, and the hotel is a very pleasant less than 10 minute walk to Queen Street Mall and the city center. Up to date train timetables in the hotel foyer also make it very easy to meet up with airport trains which leave from Central Station only 5 minutes walk away.

Good location
Hotel is very close to Central Station and Queen Street Pedestrian Mall. Security is good. You need a room key to go up the elevator. Their only laundry service is pick-up and delivery, so we had to carry our laundry a mile to find a launderette to wash our clothes.
