Great location, budget friendly!

We only spent one brief night at the Heritage - had a late flight in and left fairly early the next morning for Green Island, so unfortunately we didn't stay long enough that I could fully review this accommodation but everything we experienced while staying there was great. Rosemary was invaluable from start to finish. We had actually chosen this place from the reviews about her and she did not disappoint! We emailed her before our trip to let her know about our late arrival and she was so accommodating, she let us know how we could get in after hours, etc, but it turned out she was there to greet us after all. She is friendly, funny, and very helpful with suggestions, directions and she even drove us to the ferry terminal the next day, saving us a sweaty walk with all of our luggage! The room was very basic but clean (bonus, there is an elevator!), quiet and comfortable and the whole hotel is decorated with gorgeous photos and artwork she has collected from Papa New Guinea, a great touch. Good quality for the price, and a convenient location, would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a nice, budget hotel.

no staff after 9pm-6a.m.

We've just been there in Oct. We like the spacious and tidy room but the worst thing is the reception is not 24 hr on duty and the reception counter closed at 9pm. We think it's very inconvenient to travellers. We travelled to many places, but it's our first time to have our check-in without the receptionist giving us a key! That night, we arrived at 11:20 pm. We saw the front door with dim light, The door was not opened automatically. The staff put our room key in a key safe. That's really a bad idea because at first we couldn't find the key safe and rang the bell of the hotel. The staff wore a piece of pajamas came out, but she didn't open the door to let us in! she just watched us. we felt bad to wake someone up, but in fact we need to go in and need someone service us! so I think they should hire someone to do shift duty at night to help customers. the other day, we woke up very early for the hot air balloon flight. We didn't see our pick up coach at the assigned time. We were worried. We wanted to call them up or needed help from our hotel! Again, off their office hours, we can't get any help from them! We could just wait the coach for half an hour! If there was a staff there, they could help us to call the company to ask what's going on! This is really the biggest problem of the hotel. It's not close to main street and pier either. We always walk in our city. On the map, there are 4-5 blocks away from the centre. However, We found out that it's a very long way, takes you about 20 minutes to the pier and you will get tired after a big trip to Great Barrier Reef. One gd thing is they helped us to book the coach to the airport when we left, which was cheaper than sunpalm.

Great Value

This is not the fanciest place to stay in Cairns but if you are staying in Cairns it is probably because you are out enjoying the reef or the rainforest or the thousands of other things to do besides staying in your hotel room. If you are looking for a comfortable quiet place to sleep and need something more than a backpacker hostel - this is the place.

Basic but very comfortable and friendly

The hotel is a good value for the money. While the pool isn't great everything else was nice. The BBQ and outdoor dinning areas and the staff was very helpful.

Nice little place off away from the hustle bustle

Had a good stay at the Heritage - nice rooms, great staff. A little bit further from central Cairns than many other hotels but this makes for a peaceful stay while still being a quick walk to the shops.

Very helpful management

The manager was extremely kind and helpful, and twice offered to drive us to town in bad weather, which made our rained-out stay more memorable. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes' walk from town activities, which is not a problem if the weather is pleasant. One major plus is that this hotel offers 2 hours of free computer access.

Rosemary is the best

Rosemary mans the front desk and is very enthusiastic and warm. She helped us make reservations for different activities we wanted to do. She was always ready with a smile and curious as to what we thought of the excursions. She is a true gem.

For a real good meal for not a lot of money, visit the Cock and Bull. One meal feeds two easily.

Quiet Location, Great Service and Facilities

I was in Cairns to dive the Great Barrier Reef on a liveaboard, so I arrived a few days earlier. I spent those days at a hotel around the corner from the Tropical Heritage Cairns. Even though that hotel was nice, I wanted to try the Tropical Heritage Cairns because of the reviews I had read. I returned from my diving trip in the early morning and was dropped off at the Tropical Heritage. I was hoping that my room would be available so I could have a place to use rather than to put my stuff into storage. Rosemary told me that my room was ready and gave me a box of milk as I checked in. I also told her that I wanted to do something that day and asked if the Skyrail and Kuranda Train was available that day. She told me that she would check on it. I went to my room to shower and relax for a bit. Rosemary called to say that I would be picked up at 9:25 am. That gave me something to do for the day. The hotel is small but nicer than my other stay in town. Unlike my last hotel, it had an elevator/lift to use which is nice considering I was hauling a bag of scuba gear. I really did not look around to see what else they had but I don't think there was a pool. Supposedly there are renovations going on according to the notice at the elevator but there was no noise during my stay. No food service other than breakfast if you arrange it the night before. They give you 2 hours of free internet access, there is a computer with printer in the lobby. I did not know that as I had been using the internet cafes in town to check email. I could have saved $4 if I had known. I had an early morning flight and had already pre-paid the return trip. Still they made the call to confirm the pick up time for me. I would definitely stay here again. Service and facilities were more than adequate. If you have to go into the center of town for restaurants, then the location borders on being close and far. Quiet street but it is only half a block away from where I was staying before and that is about 2 streets away from where most restaurants begin. All you would be walking is just an extra block each way. No problem for day tour pickups.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

There were a couple of times when I wanted something that was not a lot of meat or expensive. I went to Orchid Plaza next to the Woolworths to a place at the ground level called Saigon Sub. The sandwich there for $4.90 is good and not so expensive.

Best staff

It is just a short walk to the esplanade from here and is a nice quiet location. The manager Rosemary was over and above any hotel mgmt I've ever encountered. She even gave us a ride up to the Botanical Gardens (easy bus ride back). We had them do some bookings for us and that's a weight taken off your back that you don't need on holiday.

Use the hotel booking services. They know the area, just give them an idea of what you want and they can steer you through the dearth of options.
