Disappointed Customer
Relaxing night in Cairns
The hotel was in a great location and a good value. The one down side is the Spa isn't actually onsite and you have to go to another hotel for services.

Rydges Tradewinds Cairns is a sweet deal
The hotel was very nice and affordable at $70 USD. We actually stayed an additional night and went snorkeling off the Great Barrier Reef. It was convenient to everything in Cairns. The shopping is expensive, but saving money on the hotel let us have extra for that. The room was clean though the hotel hallways are somewhat dingy. It is obviously and older property that has been refurbished to meet more modern standards. The baths have granite counters, there is coffee/tea service in the rooms, and a cash wet bar. The balcony looked out over the surf and the swimming lagoon on the esplanade.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Take a day to go diving or snorkeling. You can book full service trips at the Dive Shop (you get what you pay for). They supply all the gear, transportation to and from the reef on a nice sized boat, and lunch during the day tour. Also, the train to Kuranda and skyrail back make a nice rainforest tour. Kuranda itself is touristy with lots of shops. Make sure to go on the trail through the rainforest instead of spending all of your time shopping. It is worth the hour walking to see what the trees are like from underneath. It is a blacktop trail and accessible to anyone who can walk, there are stairs though if wheelchair bound or pushing a stroller.
