Good and Bad
I stayed here last week after a work conference in Melbourne and was looking for some relaxation after a week of work. We stayed here for 3 nights. First, the whole reason we chose this hotel was for the roof top pool. When we checked in we were not informed that the pool was totally being rebuilt. I made my reservation months in advance and was never once informed. It was quite a bummer to run up to the roof with the intention of relaxing by the pool only to see an empty concrete hole. The view was still spectacular, but this was a major let down and very unprofessional in my opinion. I would have stayed somewhere else if I had know, which I assume is why I was not told. The best part of this hotel is the location. Lonsdale street is amazing and you can walk/tram to anywhere in Melbourne easily from the hotel. The rooms were mediocre, but that was ok given the price and location. My advice would be to request a room on a higher floor. You'll get a balcony with a great view. Our room was on the second floor and we had a lovely view of an alley... NO FREE WIFI. I'm not sure this is stated explicitly so I'll mention this too. You have to pay 70 cents/min to use the internet in the room. We paid 30.00 for 24 hours and then the internet didn't work after the first hour. We complained, called the tech number we were given and it never got fixed. I was still charged. Overall if you want a cheaper hotel with a good location this is a perfectly good choice. However, just make sure you ask a lot of questions before you arrive...

Not what I expected
The cleanliness and quality of this hotel was not at all what I expected based on their website. Although the downstairs lobby appears to have been recently renovated, the rest of the hotel is a very old building and it shows. I've stayed at hostels that had cleaner rooms. The staff was generally friendly, although somewhat challenging to deal with at times (especially when it arose to complaints regarding the room). I decided not to stay here after seeing the poor quality of the rooms, and had to go through the hotel's senior management just to cancel my booking (the front desk staff and manager on duty didn't have the authority to help). Overall, I would say it might be worth it to stay here if you're comfortable with sub-par cleanliness, quality and rooms, but you could probably stay somewhere a lot nicer for a little extra per night (and it would be worth every penny).

What a great find.....friendly
What a great find.....friendly helpful staff......great location.....dining and bar. Looking a little frazzled on arrival, I was upgraded to a room with a spa on level 15, a very much appreciated gesture. I couldn't get over the size of the room, it was enormous by normal standards and the bed & pillows, heaven. I couldn't rate this hotel more highly.

What a great thing to have a hotel
What a great thing to have a hotel with windows that open! No dehydration from air con and lovely fresh air throughout the night. This hotel met our needs - location right near china town, really comfortable bed, friendly staff and a bar downstairs. The only thing I could suggest is that it could be a little cleaner (although nothing to get too concerned about) and on the Saturday night the people coming out of the nightclub across the road at 3am were really noisy so woke us up. The other nights were fine though and only really street traffic to contend with.
