Apartment-style hotel lures with downtown location, river views
The Oaks on Market offers apartment-style accommodations with a view of the Yarra River in the heart of downtown Melbourne. The one- and two-bedroom apartments were renovated in 2009. Some rooms include free breakfast for up to two guests. Two restaurants, Alexi's on Market and R2 Restaurant & Bar, serve a variety of fresh and tasty dishes that span numerous cooking styles; Alexi's has a chef's table that seats eight diners at a time.

Apartment Hotel, NICE!
I loved it. The room was like a studio apartment with a small refrigerator, microwave, stove, utensils, pots and pans, tea and instant coffee. It would be appropriate for a couple and two kids who could sleep on the floor or cots. There was a nice couch, coffee table, desk and ample closets and drawers. Too bad there is no free WiFi but you can buy a 7-day pass for $126. There is a daily usage rate, too.

Short walk from hotel
Tour buses will pick you up at almost any hotel for free, but much earlier than you need to leave. Most buses take you a few blocks to Federation Square where you have to wait another 30-60 minutes. Just walk to Federation Square or Flinders Train Station (if you are taking a train). Also, take 15 minutes to study a tourist map and figure out how to use the trams and buses. These are either cheap or free and the stops are centrally located to the hotel, along Elizabeth Street, Collins and Flinders.

Superb hotel
We loved this hotel. It was right in the city, but very quiet. Lovely view. Hotel staff was very friendly & helpful. We stayed 9 days and never tired of it. We got an excellent deal with [...] - $114/night.

Confirm taxi price before you get in cab. Hotel offered aiport taxi service for $44, but taxi said we owed $70 when we got to airport. Also be careful with room phone - one telephone call (8 min) to local cell phone cost $20.

Excellent getaway
The Hotel was superb. Very clean, perfect location and close to everything and staff were very helpful and friendly. Only thing that the air-conditioned was hard to work out.

Very accomodating to requests.
Very accomodating to requests. Initially were allocated to room 505 with no views and as soon as a cancellation was made we were transferred to room 1705 with excellent views.
