Schloss Mirabell (500 metres) - Just 5 minutes walk away is this palace whose lovely grounds were used in the filming of 'The Sound of Music'. Not great. just adequate

I lived in Salzburg at one time, and am quite familiar with the culture. This hotel was clean and functional, but not up to normal Austrian standards. I was really irritated that I had to wait twenty minutes for someone to show up at the front desk for check out in the morning. Then, the front desk person gave me the wrong information about the city bus. Lastly, you have to leave your luggage in a corner of the lobby when you check out and wish to not carry it with you. Even though they have a sign posted that they are not responsible for luggage in left in the lobby, and I pointed out that no one had been there for twenty minutes, they assured me nothing would happen to it. I was not convinced. The eleven euro breakfast was definitely not worth it. All in all, I would stay someplace else, unless you are in a pinch.

Even though everything in Salzburg is perfection, most goods are cheaper in Germany. Unless Salzburg is your last stop, try to shop in Germany.

Would stay here again

The hotel is a short walk (about 10 minutes) from the train station, and near the river. It's a nice walk along the river to downtown Salzburg. There are three bus lines that run in front of, or near, the hotel. Not in the heart of the city, but still very convenient and accessable. The hotel is nice, the desk staff all spoke English, and were helpful and friendly. Our only real complaint was that there wasn't any air conditioning, although a fan was provided (very helpful). We did not try the hotel breakfast (10 euros per person). Free (wired) internet was very much appreciated. We would definitely consider staying at the Belmondo again.

While in Salzburg, if you plan to sight-see, be sure to look into the "Salzburg Card." It's available in 24, 48 or 72 hour cards, and provides free admission to many of the local sights (and discounts on even more), as well as unlimited bus rides on city bus lines. Three bus lines run in front of, or near the hotel.
