Excellent choice
Not knowing Salzburg, we didn't know what location would be best. This hotel is in the old city right at the beginning of the largest, traffic-free shopping street. It was easy to get everywhere. The weather was cold and we were glad to be close to everything. The staff was very helpful. The rooms were cozy. The breakfast buffet was very expensive at 32 euros, so plan to eat breakfast at one of the charming cafes near by.

A perfectly charming hotel located exactly where you want to be in Salzburg. Do plan on eating breakfast out as the buffet was 32 euros! There is a nice, smoke-free cafe near Alt Salzburg hotel that offers more than rolls for a reasonable price.

Luxury Secret in Old Salzburg
The Golden Hirsch is probably one of the greatest experiences to have while in Salzburg. It has an amazing heritage and authentic Austrian comfort that is uber luxury without it being too stylised and over the top. The rooms are absolutely the best in a 5 star league, staff attentiveness par excellence, and location on one of the best streets in the Old Town. I do not want to say more or I will be giving away one of the best secrets of Salzburg. It will be my regular place to stay when ever I visit Salzburg again.

The various cathedrals and music festival venues are a stones throw away from the hotel. When walking within half a mile from the hotel all cultural and shopping venues are available and the view of the Fortress is visible from many of the rooms in the hotel.

European Vacation
Wonderful hotel in an exquisite Austrian city. Location on the end of the old town makes for easy in and out while walking and shopping. ONLY PROBLEM...make sure to use the von Karajan street address with your GPS and NOT the Getriede Strasse one listed on Orbitz. You cannot drive to the Getriede Str. front of the hotel as it faces the old town with little or no traffic allowed. The von Karajan address brings you to the back where you can unload the car. NOTE THAT HOTEL PARKING IS 30 EUROS ($50 USD) PER NIGHT.

Loves European Travel
Almost perfect!
We loved staying in this hotel. Its alpine decor made it memorable and its wonderful staff made us want to return. Our room was upgraded when we checked in. We were given a very spacious suite with a large bathroom, even by American standards. The front desk service was excellent and gracious. Our only issue was that there seemed to be an unpleasant odor (sewer gas?) eminating from the toilet and/or bidet. Keeping the doors closed to the bathroom helped but did not eliminate the problem. This may not be a fixable problem and it may not be a problem in every room.

Consider attending the Mozart dinner concert during your stay. The food was surprisingly good for a large-group setting. The music and vocal entertainment was of high quality and our dinner conversation with newly made friends was enjoyable. The setting is also very lovely.

great experience!
Great location in Salzberg! right in old town and near attractions. could walk everywhere. the staff were very helpful and so attentive! Only negative...our room was non-smoking but common areas allowed smoking. no big deal, we just chose to eat & drink out in town which was cheaper anyway. we were upgraded for free & our room was very clean and the decor was true to Austria!! loved it & would stay again!

Excellent location and very attentive
Excellent location and very attentive staff. The only problem was the thermostat for the room had no effect on the temperature, so the room was too warm.

Great, classy hotel in the heart of Salz
It was a great experience to stay in this classic hotel. Everyone treated us very nicely. The room was great at the special rate offered. It was not easy to get to this hotel because it is in the heart of the old town. Once we got in, everything was great.

Dinner at the Stiftskeller St. Peter was out of this world. You don't have to attend the dinner concert to enjoy great meal.
