The recently renovated BEST WESTERN Hotel Beethoven is the right choice if you are looking for a comfortable hotel in Vienna. Centrally located, just across from the 'Theater an der Wien' (Beethoven's temporary residence), it is ideal for sightseeing, shopping or enjoying Vienna's lifestyle. Many sights are only a few minutes' stroll away; a subway station is also nearby. Our hotel features a conference room and air-conditioning. Theatre, concert tickets and sightseeing tours are available., From July thru December 2010, there will be construction on the roof. Workers will use an elevator to help minimize construction noise and traffic.

Nice Cross of and Old World Pension and a Western Hotel

Our room felt like a bedroom in someone's grandmother's home. There was a chandelier over the bed and crown moldings, etc. The windows opened fully -- a rarity on a sixth floor hotel room, so it may not be too kid-friendly. There was a second door about 18 inches inside our room door, which seemed odd. Breakfast was good and they'll make ham and eggs or bacon and eggs for you to order at no extra charge if you like. We were only there one night and we found plenty to eat without getting the made-to-order stuff. There was a small gift shop near the front desk with snacks, etc. and there was hot tea available for free in the second floor lobby. About a block away there's a marketplace with lots of food stalls and restaurants. If we'd stayed longer I'm sure we would have put this to very good use. Just beyond the market there's a pretty nice grocery store with reasonable prices and some prepared foods. There was a fridge in our room so I'm sure with a longer stay we would have given that a workout as well. It's located within easy walking distance of the Museum District, the Hofburg, the Staatsoper and Mariahilferstrasse. We walked to the hotel from Wien Westbahnhof, but it's a little bit of a hike. Overall we were very happy with our choice because it gave us many American-style amenities without sacrificing too much Old World charm.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Instead of ponying up the big bucks for a ride to the airport we took a short walk to the U4 and rode it to the City Airport Train at Wien Mitte. It cost us 10.70 euros apiece and we could check into our flight and leave our baggage at the CAT station.
