At the west end of New Providence lies an exquisite hideaway. A Stone's Throw Away is perched on one of the highest elevations by the coast.

Here the Guests can indulge in a rare panoramic view of Nassau's land and sea. The scenery boasts the best of the island's natural wonders, from the native pine forest by Lake Killarney to the brim of the coral reefs that protect the glimmering beaches of west Nassau.

The property was recently built to echo the traditions of an old Bahamian home: wood floors and wood ceilings, louvered shutters and a large wrap around porch bring the visitors back to a quieter time long ago when the music of the islands could be heard in the whispers of the trade winds.

Additional features include: Baby sitting service, Bar, Barbecue area, Dry cleaning, Laundry service, Library, Non-smoking rooms, Reception, Plunge pool, Safe deposit box.

This Stone's A Gem!!!

A Stone's Throw Away (ASTA) is the perfect location for a romantic getaway. I was originally hesitant to book a stay at a bed and breakfast, but my boyfriend suggested that we give it a try and I am so glad we did. This place is like heaven on earth. The house is beyond beautiful as I felt like I was staying in a cozy and very comfortable mansion. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated and the beds are so comfortable. Our room faced the ocean, and we took advantage of the wraparound porch by waking up every morning and stepping out to enjoy the lovely view. One day I scheduled a morning massage and I was able to get it done on the porch facing the ocean and that was the best! And I can't say enough about how extremely courteous and professional the staff was. They chef made a pretty good breakfast every morning (pancakes, French toast, bacon, omelets, etc or you can opt for a continental breakfast of cereal, fruit, coffee and cookies. And you can't beat the complimentary ride to and from the airport. I also left a really nice necklace and they found it and mailed it to me without me having to pay for postage. They have a couple of restaurants within walking distance. We went to Travelers Rest and that was good. We took the bus ($1.25 or $1.50) to hang out downtown and do some other touristy things, but we were glad to get back to the peace, quiet and serenity that ASTA has to offer. If you are looking for a romantic place to stay, and don't have problems with walking up stairs I highly recommend this place. I can't wait to go back!!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Keep in mind, while the bus is easy and inexpensive, ($1.25/50 each way) it stops running at 6 p.m. Cabs are anywhere between 20 and 30 dollars depending on where you are going downtown. Be sure to go to the store to buy snacks for your room. Although I loved the honor bar system ASTA had set up, it's nice to have snacks and drinks in your room. If possible get an ocean view room it's worth the extra money

Great views but lots of steps to get there

Pros: Close to Airport. Ok. for one night. Wrap arround porch. Comfortable king size bed. Great sunsets. Tastefully decorated. Friendly staff. Cons: If you travel with more luggage than a carry on it is wise to consider another place. The only way to get to the hotel is trough a cave over about 100 steep steps. Do not expect help to carry your bags. No elevator. We had 4 heavy bags. AC had odor so we decided to open the windows and run the fan. But the fan had heavy dust on its blades. We did not dare to run it. Room fridge was empty and did not work. Limited not cooled refreshments are available.

Georgeous facility

It is great for its location. Close to airport and meetings. As a transit stop it is fantastic. A superior Bed and Breakfast, but typical Bahamas plumbing and ordinary food. Excellent staff. Not for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs.

Unlucky with the weather

Our 3 night stay was dampened by the bad weather. While the hotel doesnt have the glitzy facilities of some name brands it was a cozy andf relaxing atmosphere to sit back and watch the rain. The large balcony was perfect for relaxing outside the room. Meals are tasty but basic. That said the home made cookies were brilliant. The staff were always helpful.

Perfect romantic getaway!

What a beautiful place. The staff was so friendly and very accommodating. You can make yourself feel rite at home. They have a coffe/tea bar set up that you can help yourself to day or night free of charge. All other drinks including alchohol are based on the honor system. This is not a place I would recommend to bring the family (kids would be bored). But if you want a romantic getaway, lots of R and R this is the place for you. Free shuttle two and from the airport, free ride to the beach that is just up the road. Lovely complementary breakfast. The most amazing view of the ocean... beautiful gardens!! Highly reccommend!!

Nightlife tip: Short drive from hotel

You can take the bus pretty easily throughout the week. $1.50 each way. You could take a cab but it is going to cost you $60 bucks round trip. Naussa shuts down around 6:00 pm..so if you go into town, plan on a very early dinner.

No need to consider other hotels

This is the perfect place for a romantic getaway, away from the insanity of Paradise Island and just beyond Cable Beach. The staff is very friendly. The pool and patio areas are beautiful as are the views. Breakfasts are included - hot made to order breakfast including omelets, pancakes, etc. You do need to be prepared for stairs. The hotel is built on top of a limestone cliff. You will climb about two flights through the cliff to the pool area, then one more to the lobby - no elevator. As long as this is not an obstacle, this is an ideal spot for couples and single travelers. The stairway tunneling through the cliff gives it the feel of a secret hideout.

Sightseeing tip: Short drive from hotel

One attraction not to be missed is Clifton Heritage Park at the west end of the island. There are gorgeous isolated beaches and excellent snorkeling just offshore. We saw a dolphin from the beach. The owner of the hotel, who is on the property daily, will tell you how to get there.

No Complaints

I spent one night at ASTA after six days on Eleuthera. I wanted a place near the airport with a little character and style but not a completely bloated price, and this place more than met my expectations. Unique location, beautiful wrap around porches with a number of potential spots to take in the views while sipping a drink or reading a book. The nearest beach is a bit small, but I was told the place as an agreement with another closeby resort with a larger spread of sand. Honor bar system was a novelty and certainly made the whole experience more intimate. I had a room facing the sea. Wonderful floors and carpets and lovely final touches. Couldn't figure out how to lock my balcony door.

Idyllic retreat on Nassau

Terrific, small, personal hotel/bed and breakfast set high up and overlooking the ocean. Stunning views. Island style accommodation with beautiful porches off bedrooms. Chris and his lovely staff couldn't be more accommodating, helpful, or cheerful. Our room was upgraded to an ocean view halfway through our week at no additional cost. We hired a car for the week, but John is always willing to drop off and pick up guests who have no transportation. We mentioned a couple of minor problems with the room and they were put right immediately and cheerfully! There are many steps to climb to reach the property, so this is not a place for anyone who has difficulty getting around (the only reason for the 4/5 score for location). The beach just down the hill is a little rocky, but Nirvana Beach (about 3 minutes in the car) is perfect! The deck areas around ASTA are perfect for relaxing with an evening drink from the well-stocked honor bar. Breakfast is simple, but good. This is a beautifully relaxing out-of-the-way retreat!

solo traveler

I didn't call ahead to have the free shuttle pick me up( my fault) so it only cost me $10 for a taxi to take me. There was a doorbell at the bottom of a stone walkway and you let the person know your name and if you need a porter for your bags( i didn't realize this and carried them up two flights of stairs!) The staff were extremely pleasant and very willing to offer/explain anything. The first person i met got me registered to my room and when i asked about a good restaurant was quick with a reference. The views from the inn's balconies were beautiful!! It was also very quiet inside the room. ( I think i was the ony guest) Everyone was very nice an and they offered a delicious hot breakfast in the morning. I coulde choose between eggs, sausage, waffles, bacon, along with an assortment of cereals and fruit.

Romantic quiet getaway

Lovely quiet place. We booked the suite, which was gorgeous! Friendly staff, will drive you to supermarket or airport. Or: love beach! Perfect quiet beach where you can rent snorkling gear and discover all the colourful fishes on your own. We liked this piece of paradise better than the busy crowded center of Nassau. You can also walk to the beach, but watch out for traffic! Hotel has free wifi and breakfast. If you like a quiet romantic getaway, definitely recomended!
