enjoyed Barbados

Enjoyed the stay for a nice low-key vacation. Staff were very helpful and facilitated activities. 3 pool and 2 beach areas. One side was quieter than the other, which was a nice option. Restaurant was expensive - that was the only drawback.

There were some vendors who would bring local fare for sale @ lunch time outside the hotel. A lot of food for a reasonable price and the food was great!

A great stay - wish it were longer

Excellent. Lovely room, beach, staff & totally relaxing. Friendly & helpful staff. Clean, good amenities and attention to details. It exceeded our expectations. Our ground floor double studio was so convenient but we could see it could be noisy with the bar music & children playing in the high season - we would take Ipods next time to block out noise! We were right by the swim-to pool bar. The east block has a deeper pool & seems quieter - it depends what you want. The weak point would be the restaurant food - limited menu & expensive for what you get. If staying longerw we would self cater all the time. No point in pre-booking restaurant meals. There is a free shuttle to super market twice a week or a smaller convenience store at The Gap that is 15 minute walk along the beach. Local buses are only 5 minutes walk. The sound of the surf was great - as good as North Shore Hawaii ith the benefit of being able to go in the shallows even if not a surfer. We'll be back!

Eat in but self cater. What is better than preparing simple food yourself in well equipped studios - some have full kitchens - enjoy a bottle of wine with the sound of the ocean. Music from the hotel's restaurant could also be heard from our studio. Hotel BBQ night had excellent music. I'd go back there tomorrow.

Pablo Dante's restaurant is around the corner. They are open late - we ate there the night we arrived around 10pm. And open early for breakfast too. *Also check out Harrisons Cave - awesome site.

Best hotel for the price

Barbados is a lovely island with wonderful people. The hotel is excellently located on the South Coast. The water and beaches are exceptional. Rooms very clean, big bathroom, could use a TV in the seperate bedroom. Hotel contracts out tours and watersports (snorkel gear, wake boards, etc.) Not very good, didn't even have any masks when I asked. Kids went surfing (use Barry's) and resort diving (use Roger's). Meals onsite somewhat reasonable for breakfast and lunch, expensive dinners. Taxis are expensive, use your feet or shuttles and buses to save money. Check out Harrison's Cave, don't bother with the Rum distillerly or beer bewery tours, not worth the money. One of if not the best island I have been to and I've been to many.

Head to the "Gap" 15min walk for excellent food at reasonable prices. Especially check out "Happy Days" for breakfast and lunch and "del Sol" for lunch and dinner.

Good hotel

The hotel had a fabulous view and the water was great. They had a couple of pools and had nightly events. The room was very spacious but they need to get new beds as they were not comfortable. They didn't have a lot of snorkel equipment and it took several days for us to get to sign it out. We went in the beginning of June in their off-season and the weather was great and not a lot of people at the hotel so it seemed like it was our own private hotel.

Good hotel not overly luxurious

Comfortable hotel well run although not as luxurious as some adjoining hotels. Situated right on a beautiful beach which was never overcrowded. Something of a walk to the restaurant/bar area although taxis/buses easy to come by.

Beatiful friendly place on good beach

The hotel staff went all out to make our stay comfortable. For instance, to make a 15 or so minutes wait for check-in seem shorter (we arrived at the peak time of Saturday afternoon), we were served free rum (or plain fruit) punch in a delightful airy lobby that overlooked a tangle of swimming pools surrounded by bugainvilleas. The staff helped us book restauranta, rent a car, etc. Of the three resorts I stayed in a Carribean island, I rate this one the best. Do take a trip to see the Barbados museum near Bridgetown.

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

Take the 3 hour trip to watch ship wrecks and turtles underwater, swim or bob in the water, listen to music being played under your shaded porch, or to the chirping of birds (Unfortunately, there were no banana quits)

Very good deal. Most beach for the buck

Right on a beautiful stretch of beach. That is the main deal. Hotel has 2 restaurants which are very good and an easy choice after a lazy beach day. Often have entertainment. Rooms are simple, perhaps a little dated but this place is a very good deal on an expensive island.

Wonderful stay at the Bougainvillea

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bougainvillea Beach Resort. We booked a studio and were upgraded to a one bedroom upon check in. The suite was lovely and spacious. Our room's balcony overlooked the beach and swim up bar, but there was no noise or disturbance whatsoever from the bar during our stay. We enjoyed eating meals out on the balcony, which is deep enough to be in shade most of the day and has comfortable furniture. The resort has a friendly and casual feel to it, and although we expected to spend most of our time seeing the island we enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere at the Bougainvillea so much that we spent much of our stay hanging out and enjoying the beach and our suite. The kitchen is well equipped and we cooked a few meals, also got lunches from the food cart across the street and had a couple of good meals at the resort's restaurant on the beach. Our favorite thing was the beach, best swimming ever in the beautiful warm water and active surf. Families with young children might want to choose a beach further north where the water is calmer as there is no lifeguard and the surf can be a bit rough. The resort is right on Maxwell Beach, the beach compares favorably to other we saw on the island. The location is quiet and away from nightlife. Cabs were available, the resort runs a shuttle into Bridgetown and tour companies will pick up right at the hotel.
