The Crane, a residential resort, renowned for its unique cliff top setting on one of the most beautiful pieces of beachfront in the world, is now transformed from a very small property into a first class experience. There are 3 accommodation types: 1887 historic hotel rooms, private residences and park residences. The rooms and suites of the historic resort are each unique in design and location, all with authentic antique furnishings, original coral stone walls, spectacular views, and elegant four-poster beds. While The Crane remains steeped in Barbadian history, the private residences offer 21st century conveniences and amenities. Ground floor suites feature infinity edge private pools, while some one and two-bedroom residences on the upper floors feature individual plunge pools. In addition to this, The Crane offers four excellent dining options. L'Azure Restaurant, which offers contemporary Caribbean & International cuisine and is well known for its fresh seafood and amazing ocean views. Zen, rated as "No. 1 for Food in Barbados" by Zagat, offers classic Thai and Japanese cuisine in an authentic setting, D'Onofrio's Pizzeria which is located in the Crane Village offers casual family style Italian fare and Carriage House Restaurant & Bar offers casual poolside favourites. Our stay at the Crane

Our experience was close to perfect. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable about everything on the island. Our only down side was that we had booked our room specifically for the private pool and it only worked for the first 3 out of 8 days.

Nice place, but....

very nice place, what you would expect from a nice resort. The location is great if you want to be away from the city... Perfect for a quiet retreat. The closest off property restaurant is 20 min away...not bad, just be aware. As mentioned before, the air-conditioning is marginal at best, but the nice breeze often makes up for that. Sometimes not, however. Not being high season, there is lots of construction, landscapers, and heavy equipment activity that added to the noise and mess. I expect that without all the activity, it would be really quiet.

Stunning Resort

The Crane in Barbados was absolutely beautiful!!! The grounds were spectacular and the views for the cliff were stunning. The staff was super friendly and so welcoming. The resort itself has everything that you would need including four great restaurants, a general store, a jewelry store, a clothing store, a gym, a spa, the rooms have free washer and dryers, and the kitchens in the rooms come with all the amenities you could need. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it especially if you are planning to visit Barbados.

Outstanding Resort

First of all, I was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff. The room and grounds are all very nice. The people of Barbados are a great asset and made this one of my favorite trips. We tried the on-site Zen Restaurant and D'Onofrio's and had excellent meals at both.

Entertainment tip: Short drive from hotel

It is a fabulous resort and everything is self-contained; however, there is a lot of entertainment on the south coast and west coast which requires a lot of driving if you rent your own car. Of course, the resort will arrange any type of pickup you need for package deals to the other coast (i.e catamaran cruise, Harbor Lights Experience,e tc. ) where the tour operator will pick you up.

Great but far

Went to Barbados for vacation and to visit family. Great hotel but far from most places. Crane beach had way too much seaweed to go swimming. Pools were great! The Zen restaurant was amazing.

Strained at the Crane

Let's just start by saying this was an adventure. I booked my 25th anniversary surprise gift for my wife thru or*****Sunday. When we got to Barbados, pre-paid transport the the Crane was supplied by Andy's taxi svc, a 1985 Toyota camry with no a/c, dressed out in rasta red-black-green. Upon arrival to the Crane, the bellmen just stood and stared at this spectacle and did not offer to help. The reception desk area was attended by well dressed staff that were very helpful. The only problem was that all public areas of this resort have NO A/C. After a 5 hr long flight, enjoying Sanford and Son transport to the hotel, it bothered me that there was no a/c. Not to mention how I watched my wife hyperventalating...They promptly told us that our room wasn't ready. And promptly showed us to the 1887 Bar. A complimentary rum punch awaited. [...]at the bar was the brightest light of the entire resort. After about 2hrs I went to check on the status of the room, they had forgotten that we were there, having had the room ready about 1hr earlier. We went to the room, a large 1bedroom, ocean view about 1600 square feet in size. The room was cool, but not overly cool.We at this point decided to explore the grounds. At first glimpse we found the pools dirty, you couldnt see the bottoms of any of them. The grounds had gargage, broken light fixtures, empty bottles, dirty towels abounding. Dinner that night was at Zen, the zagat rated restaurant. The food was POOR at best. The drinks warm and not well made. Zen appears to feel that adding sugar to everything makes it taste better.Upon going back to the room, since the room is not very airtight, andthe a/c not very efficient, the room was very damp, almost wet. The bed, though mahogany, was nothing more that a mattress on top of a slab of plywood... very hard and uncomfortable.Day 2- monday. We awoke to a partly sunny day, with a large chance of a tropical depression. It rained...We had the chance to look at the facitly. The resort was dirty. The elevator to the beach was dirty. The beach- supposed top 10 in the world- was dirty. The staff made no attempt to clean anything. The day ended just as sunday had. Rain, no a/c, wet room. Mildew smell was overpowering.TuesdayWe were advised that if we wanted more people that we should try the "boat yard". A taxi ride later, we were there. We were the only people there. A beach bar, the day after crop-over, good weather, and no people, just disgusting sugared drinks....Then came Paradise..... while on the beach I saw off in the distance a large hotel looming... THE HILTON. We decided to walk about 2 miles to this haven. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!! It was new, clean, perfect pools, perfect beach, tiki-bar. I BOOKED A SUITE ON THE SPOT. WENT BACK TO THE CRANE WENT TO THE HILTON. We were there from tuesday until having to leave- kicking and screaming- on friday.I/we do not complain. But to spend as much as we did, I did think that the Crane TOTALLY MISREPRESENTED the condition and status of their resort. The HILTON was about the same cost but NEW AND CLEAN.I will go back to Barbados, I will only consider the HILTON. This was as close to paradise as one can get.
