Economic lodging close to Central Station
Booked this hotel for its proximity to the Central Station, and for its price. Good value. Large bathroom. Not too far of a walk into Old Antwerp. Close to the main shopping streets.

A clean and modern hotel
Went to Antwerp for one day and overnight stay in the hotel. Astoria is located a 5- to 10-minute walk from the train station, so very convenient if arriving that way. Then the center of the old part is a 20- to 30-minute walk from the hotel. Being near the train station is a definite plus because going back for the return is easy. I stay in hotels in the USA about 30 times per year. The Astoria Hotel itself is very clean. Bathroom fixtures seem brand new. Room is pleasant - no complaints. Staff was very friendly. Being among the least expensive in Antwerp, it is a real good value.

Bit far out, but quiet
Handy for the station, but need to be ready to walk 1.5 miles to get to the interesting parts of town. Ideal if you are there to go shopping rather than see the old town.

Ulcke Van Zurich, Oude Beurs 50 - good food, reasonably priced. Watch out for the dangerous spiral staircase to the toilets! t Zolderke, Hoofdkerkstraat 7 - high quality food, little expensive, but unusual flavours/combinations.

Astoria Hotel Antwerp
We used the hotel for night time only. We were gone from 9 am until about 8 in the evenings. The hotel had clean rooms and good bathrooms...also convenient to the train station. We sight see on foot and get to museums and tourist attractions when we travel.

Good Deal close to Central Station
I was in town for a business trip. This is a good, unassuming hotel in Antwerp's Diamond District. It is a 7-10 minute walk to Antwerp's central train station. Hotels on Antwerp's Astridplein will be much closer to the train station, but these hotels tend also to offer more street noise. The Astoria, on the other hand, is tucked away and is VERY quiet. On the other-other hand, the fact that's it's tucked away may make some people nervous about walking to the hotel late at night (even though the neighborhood is quite safe). Breakfast is quite sufficient; however, if you are looking for an "American Breakfast," know that there are no scrambled eggs or bacon. Via an Orbitz special offer, I paid $78 a night (incl. breakfast AND free internet) for a three night stay in early June--almost unheard of for a *** hotel in the heart of a big European city in the summer. (The posted single room rate for this hotel is €140, that is, $195 at the exchange rate during the week of my stay.) The staff was helpful and friendly. The main minus was that there was no mini-refrigerator in the room--a definite must for business travelers who like to keep drinks and snacks handy but who don't want to pay mini-bar prices. Oddly, it seemed that the closet in the room was built for and once held a mini-fridge but that it had since been removed.

Short walk from hotel
The nearby Keyserlei has all sorts of options for food, including low-cost options. Get groceries at the Carrefour Express market on the Quellinstraat or the big Carrefour Market near the Groeneplaats. Also, the best beer in the world is, imho, brewed in Belgium. So just about any restaurant you choose will have a great beer selection. But if you can, choose a place the serves Tongerlo's Dubbel Blond. You won't be sorry.
