Beautiful piece of history
A lovely hotel in a great location close to the centre of the city. The building is beautiful, right next to the canal. We had a superior room which was spacious, warm and very comfortable and looked onto the canal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but would have liked it more if the staff had been more friendly and helpful. Being typically British we would have liked tea & coffee in the room too!! On the whole though we thought it was lovely and would stay there again.

Lovely hotel!
The location was perfect. Close enough to the popular sights, but far enough away from the noise of the city center. The hotel itself is beautiful with 'old world' charm. I would definitely stay here again. My only complaint is about the pillows on the bed. They were awful.

Comfortable, Clean and Quaint
We came in from Paris/Brussels via train then took a taxi to the hotel since we did not know where we were going and didn't want to walk in circles with luggage. The taxi charge seemed steep, but when we arrived at the hotel, our room was ready and HUGE. Beds comfortable, bath immaculate, and breakfast absolutely lovely. The hotel staff were friendly, English-speaking and helpful. The squares are easy to find and nearby. Great restaurants, but go to 1900 Frites on the square for "kip' (chicken wings on a stick), which were delicious and I don't care for chicken wings. The weather was cold in late June, so bring a jacket. We felt safe, mostly welcome (the Flemish language is quite different from English and French!), and are happy we visited. The hotel was delightful.

Be sure to take a canal cruise. They're inexpensive, 30 minutes, and give you a lay of the land.

Historic and Charming
This lovely, historic hotel is in a pretty location right next to one of the canals. To eat breakfast in the basement restaurant, just inches from the ducks in the canal was a real treat. The hotel is a short walk from the town centre and so not as convenient as some others, but the town is so lovely that any walk is a joy. Its separation from the rest of the town's hotels probably accounts for the good value room rates. Our room was compact, but had space for a queen size bed and a small table & chairs. The TV was an old 14" portable, so don't expect in room Hi Definition movies, but who goes to Bruges to watch TV! The bathroom was a little tired, but clean; its main disadvantage being the lack of a shower; there was a bathtub with a hand held shower attachment. The hotel is beautifully appointed and really looks historic. With a nice bar, terrace and breakfast restaurant it is a good place for a short stay.

Drink the Zot beer at the bar on the corner of the canal renowned as the best view in town. Just drink in the history and one of Europe's best beers.

Historic charm
Bruges is an extremely well-preserved medieval city with a number of sights worth seeing. In fact, I would consider it somewhat of a secret. Everyone knows Amsterdam, Brussels, etc., but Bruges is a surprise. The only small negative I can offer is that the hotel uses a mattress pad with a rubber backing. I stripped it off the bed so that I wouldn't sweat like a ditch digger when I was sleeping. Parking in Bruges is a challenge, but once your car is parked it really isn't necessary to use it again until you're leaving. An excellent European breakfast was included in our room rate. It was served in a small downstairs room adjacent to a canal--very picturesque.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Bierbrasserie Cambrinus is a short walk from the hotel and close to the town square. They serve over 400 beers (Belgium is famous for its beers) and have a very nice menu.

Fantastic City - Great Hotel
We had a fantastic weekend in Brugges even though the weather wasn't great. The hotel is close to the city center, but in a quiet residential area. The personal service was wonderful and the breakfast was great. I would definitely stay here again.
