COPACABANA
We had a wonderful view of Copacabana beach from the hotel. The lounges provided for hotel guests at the beach were much appreciated. The breakfast room was immaculate and the buffet choices were excellent. We enjoyed the cozy bar adjacent to the lobby for a nightcap. The front desk staff were efficient and helpful

Othon Palace - GREAT View!
We spent the extra dough for the ocean front and it was fabulous! The professional staff was great! The room was so so. Hot water was gone for a few hours and it was hard to get a straight answer as to why or when it would be restored. Watch out for wifi! They charge a daily arm and a leg for it. $20 US I think. Concierge was absolute TOPS! Location is a-ok too. Local service businesses surround the hotel including a fair currency exchange. Would we go back? The cost is pretty high and except for the view, concierge and location the hotel was average. Maybe so, maybe not.

RDJ visit
Upon reaching the Rio Othon Palace Hotel, our check-in manager was not friendly and just handed over the keys to a room, slam bang next to the elevator and a low floor, even though our booking specified a higher floor, non-smoking, kingbed room away from elevators. We looked at our room with 2 twin beds and came back to the lobby requesting a change. A different check-in manager was equally unfriendly and only upon asking to speak to the manager, did we finally get a room on the 15th floor with a kingbed and partial oceanview. We thought we were getting a oceanview room when we made the booking and had to settle for less!!!

Nit-picking aside, I couldn't be happier.
Rio Othon Palace is probably the tallest hotel along Copacabana beach, its 30 floors only equalled by the Windsor toward the opposite Northern end. So if you pay for the premium sea view, then you will get one of the best on beach. I was on floor 23 and couldn't have been much happier with the view. Especially as the balcony windows open fully to allow unrestricted viewing. (Balcony is a generous term - there is a shelf with waist high railing with just enough room to stand on.) Breakfast was included, and the buffet is a generous mixture of drinks, fruits, breads, cereals, and hot food including scrambled eggs, potatos, tomatos, frankfurters or bacon. Excellent breakfast and open from 6am. The rooftop pool, and gyms are small and "well used". Staff were polite but the desk clerks were the only ones with any English, and seemed overworked and a bit stressed. Beach access and towel service is minimal, mentioning a tunnel - but there is no tunnel under the road to the beach lockers; There is just a basement accessed via a side door with a foot shower, so you don't drag sand through the hotel foyer; And you have to cross a fairly busy road to get to the beach. The hotels in Rio were mostly all built 20 years ago or more, so the Rio Othon Palace rooms are a little dated but who is judging the decor with a beach view like that? On the plus side there is a fridge/minibar (where I kept drinks bought from local supermarkets at a much cheaper price), a safe to store valuables, and a large shower. On the down side, I saw 4 or 5 small ants crawling around in the bathroom, but nothing I was too worried about; Also, the toilet water valve seemed to need manually adjusting every time I flushed - the flow seemed to veer rapidly between the kind of glacial drip that forms stalagtites, and a tsunami of watery thunder that makes you think a Kraken is about to burst forth from the bowl. The cheapest way to travel larger distances to Flamengo, or Centro, etc. is to get the Metro from Cantagalo which is a few blocks behind the hotel - only 5 or 10 minutes walk. Otherwise the yellow metered taxis are pretty reasonable and reliable.

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
When arriving at the International airport, avoid all the people trying to sell you taxis inside; Go outside and turn right, and get one of the metered yellow taxis who should get you to Copacabana for 40 to 50 Reals. Similarly, when checking out, do NOT let the hotel staff arrange a black sedan taxi. They tried to charge me 90 Reals for a trip to the International airport, when a yellow cab caught at the rank outside the hotel cost 42.80 Reals - less than half. When it comes to taxis - DO NOT TRUST THE HOTEL STAFF - trust the metered yellow cabs with phone numbers on the side.

The special services offered by the hotel such as umbrella's and beach chairs were a nice touch. We were a lento walk for hours on beautiful Copacabana Beach.

Its very well located in Copacabana, beachfront, close to shops, banks, and restaurants. the service was excellent, staff so friendly and helpful! My room was in the executive floor and it was very spacious, clean, modern. Amazing view from the breakfast room on the 30th floor!

"An excellent Copacabana Hotel"
We have made over 50 trips to Rio, and this hotel more than met our expectations. The room was very clean, spacious with a great ocean view, comfortable king size bed, a fair sized bathroom, and a very good breakfast included. The hotel has a pool on the 30th floor long enough to swim laps. Service was very good. The only weakness is the tasteless food served in the restaurant on the 30th floor.

NIce view
Nice view, but the hotel needs some work (major work)a motel 6 is nicer!!! Some members of the staff (e.g. [...]) act more like if this hotel was a Russian prison than a beach hotel. I enjoyed more my last visit at the Copacabana Palace (price wise they are almost the same).

Perfect location on the Copacobana Beach
We spent two days at the beach, one day city tour, one day Corcovado. The city is chaotic and not very clean. Then, we went to Amazonas, that was an experience
