Ok for a Weekend getaway
The room was a little small for our liking and it was quite dark in the room even with the curtains drawn but it was at least clean. The hotel is a little too close tithe train tracks as I was woken several times by very enthusiastic train drivers that liked to honk. The hot tub was great and the proximity to the shops and restaurants were great.

Environmentally friendly hotel with a wonderful, healthy breakfast!
My wife and I stayed at the Banff Aspen Lodge for one night on Aug 27, 2011. The location is perfect-just a short walk to the main shopping district, our room was smaller but clean and quiet, the underground parking garage is spotless, the hotel is VERY eco friendly, the staff was great, and the free breakfast was unbelievable. The homemade granola and fresh fruit alone beckons us to return. On our 8 day trip to Banff, Lk Louis, and Jasper-the Banff Aspen Lodge was by far the best hotel we stayed at.

In Hotel
The guest shop in the Banff Aspen Lodge has a good variety of clothing and other items and their prices were better than anywhere else.

Nice and friendly
Friendly staff, clean and close to downtown Banff. Room had separate bedroom and living room both with TV's and separated by bath with dual sinks. We had a little balcony with chairs that overlooked the mountains. Hot tubs were wonderful and they close them at 10 so the noise doesn't disturb the rooms right around them.

Money-saving tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you are looking for maple syrup/cookies buy them at the Safeway 1 block away and not in the gift shops. About 1/2 the price. Continental breakfast is included in price as well as free parking which is very handy as there isn't much parking around.

it is just ok, not really worth the cost
very noisy refrigerator, could not sleep the first night. Have to had them unplug the refrigerator the next night. it was warm and there was no air conditioning. The pool and spa were good.

Better than I expected
The "continental breakfast" was much better than what we expected - several cereals, mixed fresh fruit, excellent granola, yogurt, muffins, various breads. It was available 7-10am in a small cafe style room with waitresses to bring fresh juice & coffee. We typically like to have a frig in the room so we can keep items ready for a quick breakfast in our room before heading out for the day - we didn't even consider doing that after we saw what the breakfast was like! We did a lot of hiking while there and definitely enjoyed coming back to the TWO hot tubs (there was always plenty of room) to relax. A sauna and steam bath were also available. The location was great also - we could easily walk the couple of blocks to the information center, and downtown shops & restaurants.

A hidden gem
We've visited Banff hundreds of times and never noticed this hotel. We've passed it by. That was our loss. This was our first stay there but won't be our last. Despite a mix-up in our reservation, they assured us of a good room. It was more like a suite and quiet. Staff were very pleasant, always smiling and friendly. Breakfast was splendid. I heartily recommend the hotel.

Sightseeing tip:
Short drive from hotel
Johnstone Canyon is 17 kms along the Bow Valley Parkway, just past Banff on the way to Lake Louise and well worth a visit. Spectacular even in winter, a 1.1 km walk to the lower falls, and beyond to the higher falls.

Clean & convenient!
The room was clean and spacious. Signed up for 2 doubles but actually got 1 double & 2 twins. It worked out for us since we had 3 people. The room set up was great. It was bit nosy though since the room was on the street level and the walls are very thin. Nice jacuzzi/spa area. The staff was very friendly and helpful! Only 2 short blocks to downtown. We found parking underground most of the time.

Great Staff!
We loved our trip to Banff and would stay in this hotel again. They were kind enough to give us room having a balcony with a view, the parking was easy, and it is only about two blocks to the center of town for shopping and dining. We also enjoyed starting the day with the complimentary continental breakfast and the staff gave hints on dining. Staff, overll, is highly courteous and friendly.

Short walk from hotel
Sit on the roof of the Elk and Oarsman for a great treat.... excellent food and good value in this high-priced destination. We first tried the Bison restaurant, and found the food to be very good, but way too expensive ( why charge me for an iced tea refill when the meal costs $100+ ?). Wish we had found the Elk / Oarsman earlier in our trip!
