Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver in April 2012
The Fairmont Waterfront is a first class hotel with first class staff. We would definately return. The location is right on the waterfront in Vancouver City, perfect for tourist or family). Underneath the hotel is the Waterfront Skytrain station with a direct link to the shops , city and airport. The location is safe and everything is walkable from the front door. The hotel is easily 4 star and the staff couldn't be more helpful. The resturant is high class and expensive. We stayed on a room only basis and there is a whole food court under the hotel in a shopping mall, so loads of eating options, with about 100 resturants for all budgets walking distance away. The reception were a little pushy about upgrades on arrival. We bought a view upgrade, Basicaly there are three views from this hotel. 1 is the rear towards the city , fine but just buildings. 2 is over the bay but facing a container port -vancouver is a working port, 3 is over the bay and mountains - perfect! They sold us the container port , we complained and they swapped us immediately. Overall a great hotel in a great city with great staff that reflect the people of Vancouver.

Wonderful service
It's certainly a nice hotel. Outstanding service - but I do have to say that I was very disappointed by our view. We had paid more for a water view (it was actually a primary reason for even choosing this hotel), but were put on a 3rd floor room, where the view was basically the conference center, and what water we might've seen was blocked by a tree. I understand that not everyone can get a high floor view, but i don't think it's a good practice to charge us significantly more for supposed "spectacular water views" when you can barely see the water. I would've saved myself some money and gotten a city view had I known what I was getting. Fitness center was open and connected to the pool and hot tub, which was kind of awkward. Maybe I'm a tough critic, but pool area was underwhelming. Heron's restaurant, however, was lovely.

Well positioned if you want to
Well positioned if you want to go to Convention Centre.Only one restaurant. There is an entrance to the railway off the food court but the entrance to Canadian Line is actually a walk of two blocks.Internet is available in the rooms but costly.TV channels are poor. The rooms are noisy if you have one with adjoining door.Shower is over the bath.View over Burrard Inlet is impressive. One gets the opportunity of seeing what a magnificent job they have done in developing their waterfront.

Wonderful for those going on a cruise
Our only complaint was a mix-up at the reservation desk -- had to wait for non-smoking rooms to become available (we had requested non-smoking); had to settle for queen rather than king size beds (it was OK) The staff was quite helpful with suggestions on points of interest and restaurants. We also appreciated the van service provided by the hotel.
