the room was so clean, big, with coach, table with 3 chairs plus desk with it's own chair, i really liked the place. also free wifi. very close to downtown and big malls. bus station on the door step.

This was my second stay here. I will probably always stay here if the price remains good. This hotel has everything you would expect in this price range, and exceeds expectations for bed comfort. Ample free parking, free and very easy to access internet. Quick check in/out and our room was quiet, comfortable and had the little extras such as coffee machine, toiletries and comfortable pillows. We were about a 5 min car ride from downtown.

The room is too small and a bit old. The high-tea at the restaurant is quite expensive but they tactically compensate you with the classic atmosphere, attentive service and a box of free tea bag when you paid the bill., the price is still OK.

This historical bldg. is a Fairmont run hotel. They do a very decent job of maintaining its original look & decor. I booked the standard room w/c is the smallest room, but it slept us 4 adults comfortably. Bathroom is tight, use is one-person-at- time fit. Overnight parking was $30, but you can leave car up to 4pm. next day of checkout.
I got the cheapest rm. that cost a fortune, but its the experience we were after. High tea was fun and the tea cakes & sandwiches were absolutely yummy, served on fine Royal Dalton china! Make reservations for high tea, sells out.

We really enjoyed the location. The Parliament Building looked beautiful from our room especially at night with the outside lights outlining the building. We could hear birds chirping as well as the activity going on in the harbour.

We went for an overnight getaway from Seattle; we took the clipper up, and the hotel let us check in early to put our bags away, which was a huge plus! They were pleasant, the rooms were nicely furnished, and the breakfast at Aura was great.
The only negative thing about the hotel was room service -- we put our room service card on the door, unfortunately it mysteriously disappeared and we did not get breakfast -- I highly recommend calling the room service people to confirm at least 30 minutes before you want breakfast.

My friend and I visited Victoria for a weekend and spent one night here. More reasonably-priced than a lot of them in the area, just a few blocks from the harbor. I like that it had a hair dryer. An extr a blanket was in the drawer, also, which I used. We did not eat there.

This hotel was in, what appeared to be, an older building in the downtown area. On the outside it was not so impresive, the lobby was not so impressive, however, the staff and location were very impressive. If I were to critque this hotel it would only be that from our room one of the two elevators was a bit noisy but they shut it off at 11:00 so it was not a huge problem. The other issue was a funny smell near the bed. We're guessing some one had a pet that piddled in there. Would we recomend this hotel to a friend? We would say that it was a fine hotel, and we did not regret staying there. Again the staff and location were great. If you're very picky you might want to stay somewhere else, otherwise, we were satisfied with the stay.

The Carlton far exceeded our expectations. We chose it based on its reasonable rates and good reviews, and were surprised at the clean and crisp bedding, parking, good bikes for clients' use, and -- most of all -- the really great staff. The location is excellent too, not in the center of the touristy area, but right next to shopping and great dining.

Excellent location for Bicyclists

We should have brought our bikes! This hotel is located right next to the Galloping Goose bike trail. The trail runs right through the parking lot, so we saw bikes constantly going past. It would have been a great way to explore Victoria. The hotel itself was nice. They do not offer free breakfast, or breakfast at all, but they have free internet service in the lobby. I used it to find directions to the nearest grocery store. There was supposedly a pool in the hotel, but I didn't see signs for it. I didn't go looking for it either, so I don't know if it exists. There is only one elevator --its small and slow. The rooms were nice. We had a flat screen tv. There was a hairdryer in the room which is always a nice feature. The ice bucket was really old and gnarly. I could have used a plastic bag to cover it. The microwave in the room has a bright light that we had to cover with a towel in order to get any sleep. The windows open and it was very quiet--our rooom looked out onto the bike trail. Ask for one of those rooms because rooms that open onto the south side might get noisy. There is a dance club or bar on that side and people hang out in the parking lot late at night.
Even though this hotel seems far from downtown, its probably better to book here if you are looking for a quiet room. The drive is not very far from the downtown sights, and we had no trouble finding parking. Also, the bus line runs along this street, so you could grab a bus.
I hope this review helps. I would definitely stay at this hotel again, but I would bring my bike. Its so cool to have the trail RIGHT THERE!

Typical room. Remodeled bathroom,but the door stuck. The carpets need to be steam cleaned. There was no breakfast served which is usually included in the Best Western and some Red Lion Inns and it was too far to walk to town so a car is needed unless you want to ride the bus. Chinese restaurant in the lower level was convenient for lunch or dinner.

The hotel staff were fantastic and made our visit very comfortable. The room seriously lacked space for clothes, but didn't matter. We felt so welcome by the staff that a little issue with the room was nothing. Would definitely stay again.

Overall great hotel. We ended up having to get a handicap bathroom as the only way to get a king bed (vs. two doubles) and ended up soaking the bathroom in the process. Otherwise, room was clean and staff was friendly.

While we were there we just explored the city. I grew up on Vancouver Island, but seldom visited the city. This is the third time my wife and I went there. This time we dragged our grown son along. The motel room was quite comfortable with luxurious beds, a 43 inch tv and a refrigerator. We spent most of our time exploring the streets and other tourist sights, including the B.C. museum. On our last day, we drove aimlessly around and let our GPS lead us back to the motel.

For the money, there is no better property out there. Though the property is older, it is kept us nice and has some really nice features, such as two bottles of water in the room. Free wireless internet that worked perfect. Nice bed, no noise on 4th floor. Restuarant off lobby had an excellent breakfast. Hotel right next door to victoria clipper dropoff and hotel. Great location to downtown. Would stay here again.

Convinent for taking bus to downtown Victoria. Bit of challenge to get into the parking lot. Close to shopping and a quality family restaurant. By riding the bus to the Royal BC Museum we saved money and did not have to wait.

Plain motel, but room was clean, new bathroom fixtures ,beds comfortable, microwave, coffee maker and fixings included. Small breakfast and lunch cafe on site. a bit of traffic noise, it"s on the main drag, but quiets down after midnight, I live in the country so quite unused to traffic noise.

The room was just the right size and the shower large sized. Directions on the thermostat would have been helpful to orient a US citizen to a Canadian device.

Loved the loft style room with the kitchen.As well as the Juliet balcony where we could see the water! The double doors blocked the noise from the bar but still heard people coming out at night overall not a problem for such a superior location!

We had a studio suite that was large with king bed, full kitchen with four burner stove & oven, frig with lots of freezer space plus all the table- & kitchen- ware one could need. There was ample sized table for two, desk with chair & free wi-fi. We had complimentary breakfast delivered to our room. Pub scene & music was great, plus the on premise store had a wide range of wine & outstanding local microbrews.

All of the staff we encountered were very helpful and friendly, worked to anticipate you your needs; the location could not be better for exploring downtown; a south facing room would have been nicer - ask for that if you can, the northern rooms have quite a bit of traffic noise

The place was wonderful, but they never found our reservation, even with my confirmation number. I do not know who's fault that would be, but because of that, they upgraded at no extra charge a 10th floor view overlooking the Harbour and the Empress Hotel. Not bad!!

We've been going to this hotel for about twenty years now (the age of our daughter). We visit Victoria at least annually. Although we'll try other places when there are specials, we always come back here because it's conveniently located to the ferry, has clean comfortable rooms, and a nice fitness room/pool/jacuzzi.

This is a fantastic hotel. The staff is always available and very helpful with any question. The hotel faces the small bay with great views Of the water, boating activities and the city across the bay. The city center is just a short walk away or a short ride on the water taxis which dock by the hotel. This is our second or third visit to this hotel. The hotel is in excellent condition and impeccably maintained however is showing some signs of a little wear. I was informed by the staff that the hotel is to undergo a complete renovation of all rooms this year starting in November and will be complete by next spring. The restaurant features great food with a great view while enjoying your meal, although it is a little pricy. [...] Overall, this is a great property with a great staff and I will definitely return to this hotel even if I do get another room with a less than desirable view.

Had a great time, booked a harbor view, which is much nicer than the city view roof tops. Staff was very helpful. We could watch the float planes take off and land and the whale boats come and go. A marina is below. The Blue Crab restaurant in the hotel provided a great fresh salmon and halibut meal.[...]the concierge, booked our seaplane sight seeing flight and our whale watch, both were great

The place was a cool older manor and the rooms had a great old English feel, nice furniture and the bed was awesome. (JCPenny tags kind of ruined the old feel) but the rooms were very clean. Only complaints were the guy staff members were not very friendly and the internet didnt work all the time. It was very cool to stay there though, the back yard felt like the secret garden, very european. The location was kind of weird, down a residential side street and a little walk to the bus stop, but not bad. Very quick ride downtown. Very well worth the money spent though.

We wanted to sleep in so having a dark, quiet room was important and this room (3rd floor toward the rear) was perfect. The beds and linens were great too.

Building was still under construction and the elevators were slow. The pool wasn't open either.
However, the construction wasn't noisy and the brand new suites were beautiful. I would love to stay here again when the facilities are complete.

Fantastic facility and great location. Close walking distance to many great attractions and restaurants in Victoria.
The staff is extremely professional, friendly, especailly the front desk clerks.
Enjoyed everything about the facility, its staff, contemporary decor, the landscape and location.
Would definitely stay there again and would highly recommend this facility.
Thumbs up on the Leed certification.

Great location, good service, except very late to clean the rooms, 3or 4 p.m. The room was very dark with lighting that was also dark.
