BEST WESTERN PLUS Carlton Plaza Hotel

This hotel was in, what appeared to be, an older building in the downtown area. On the outside it was not so impresive, the lobby was not so impressive, however, the staff and location were very impressive. If I were to critque this hotel it would only be that from our room one of the two elevators was a bit noisy but they shut it off at 11:00 so it was not a huge problem. The other issue was a funny smell near the bed. We're guessing some one had a pet that piddled in there. Would we recomend this hotel to a friend? We would say that it was a fine hotel, and we did not regret staying there. Again the staff and location were great. If you're very picky you might want to stay somewhere else, otherwise, we were satisfied with the stay.

The Carlton far exceeded our expectations. We chose it based on its reasonable rates and good reviews, and were surprised at the clean and crisp bedding, parking, good bikes for clients' use, and -- most of all -- the really great staff. The location is excellent too, not in the center of the touristy area, but right next to shopping and great dining.

Hotel staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful. Delightful walk from Inner Harbour and other attractions. Air conditioned in a region where AC is scarce.

Excellent location and staff. Even though we were not expecting to pay for valet parking, it was very prompt and courteous.

It was my first time to visit Canada so it was exciting for me and to see city of Vitoria is quite a fun and wonderful experience. My favorite place to hang around the water bay area where you can relax and see around beautiful Tea Empress Hotel, the Parliament bldg. and museums as well. It was a breathtaking beautiful city to see that I might come and visit again someday. Going round trip to Vancouver was also a great experience. The hotel closet is kind of too small, it would be nice if there's more space to hang clothes as the left side of the closet occupied by the safe deposit box and not much room to hang. I don't think it's comparable it's a very unique city it is sort of a little taste of Enland in fact.

A very convenient and friendly chain hotel. Our only quibble was that, coming back late afternoon for a rest after being out all day, we were turned out while the room was serviced.

The hotel occupies two older buildings just north of one of the main shopping areas in Victoria, and is also within walking distance of the Inner Harbour. Although the hallways were narrow and the elevators small (not a surprise in an older building), the hotel has clearly been updated. Our room was great -- of nice size, having a comfortable bed with wonderful linens, and a very clean, modern bath with a good tub/shower. We used the guest laundry, too, which was quite a convenience after more than two weeks on the road. We took advantage of the valet parking; most everything was within walking distance. Victoria is a wonderful walking city. We went everywhere on foot, from Bastion Square to the new developments in Victoria West (over the blue bridge), to James Bay, Beacon Hill Park, Cook Street Village and the Royal BC Museum. We did take our car on the "Scenic Marine Drive" around the shore, stopping at Government House and Oak Bay Village, and after checking out of the hotel went west to Esquimalt and the Gorge Waterway before heading to Sidney to catch the ferry to Friday Harbor. Everyone seems to visit The Butchart Gardens, and it is well worth the trip. We decided to take the # 75 public bus, which is inexpensive and travels through interesting areas of Victoria and its suburbs. The gardens are far beyond what we expected, and I recommend devoting at least half a day to their exploration. We also took our car on drives to Cowichan Bay and on to Sooke, and explored back roads on the Saanich peninsula.

Hotel best described as average. After having stayed at Five star Pan pacific in vancouver anything bound to be a disappointment. Hotel staff friendly but time to get in to foom- almost 4 Pm and time to get room cleaned- again 4 PM was way too long. Would choose another hotel next time.

the hotel was very good. The staff was friendly and helpful. we used their hotel wheelchair all week, and the valet parking came in very handy.
