Great place to stay in Halifax
The Lord Nelson is a great place to stay in Halifax because it is within walking distance of everything downtown and by the waterfront. The building is uplifted and well appointed with old world charm. The Victory Arms restaurant/bar was a comfortable place to gather with good, affordable food. Overall a great value for what feels like a more expensive stay.

Great Location Great Hotel
The hotel is absolutely beautiful. It reminds me of a Ritz in the US. Its on the corner of the biggest shopping district in Halifax and across the street from the Public gardens that was created by the same man who created Central Park in NYC. It is just a short walk away from many historic sites such as the Citadel as well as the beautiful harbor. Check in and check out was easy and the room was immaculate. I highly suggest this hotel.

Dining tip:
Long walk from hotel
Argyle street, which is where most of the restaurants are located is about 3/4 of a mile. It is a downhill walk there but the uphill walk back is a little much. If you have small children jump in a cab (it will be less than $5).

Location, location, location!
Very friendly, helpful staff. The plane was late and we didn't arrive until 1:30 a.m. The suite was spacious, clean, welcoming and the pillow top beds were so comfortable. This is an old fashioned hotel with mahoghany and brass and thick carpets. Very conveniently located for walking everywhere. Local ground transportation top notch.

Loved this hotel!
This is an elegant older hotel that has been completely renovated, combining charm, luxury and total comfort. It faces the magnificent must-see Public Gardens, is a few blocks from the Waterfront, and even closer to the Citadel. It is off Spring Gardens Road which has shops and restaurants, as well as a city bus going down to the Waterfront. We were able to park in a metered spot right across the street, which became free for the entire week-end at 6 p.m. Friday, thus avoiding the $20 a night parking fee at the garage adjacent to the hotel. Leave car parked- everything is walking distance (though the walk back from waterfront is steep). The [...] price for this hotel was an amazing value, both in comparison to the other upscale hotels in Halifax and in comparison to a comparable hotel in most other cities. (We did not check out the restaurants in the hotel, so I gave this a neutral rating).

Park across from hotel on the side of the Public Gardens. Meters become free at 6 p.m. Friday evening for entire week-end. Hotel parking is expensive.

perfect choice for cost and location
So many things were in walking distance of the hotel: the Citadel, the Public Gardens, Victoria Park, many many restaurants of varying cost. The breakfast buffet at the hotel was pricey for the food choices but there were coffee shops right around the corner. We also walked to the waterfront and while the walk back was up hill, we 'seniors' managed it quite well, thank you. The Maritime museum was close by as well. The staff was very polite, friendly and helpful. the complimentary newspapers were appreciated as were the fresh apples at the desk everyday. The rooms were spotless, the housekeepers friendly and polite. The view was limited to an empty courtyard but we did not come to Halifax to stay in very much so it worked out fine. It would have been nice to have a small refridgerator in the room. A regular coffee maker would have been better than the single cup set up provided. But the beds were more than comfortable. Over all we were very pleased and are already planning our next trip back!

Location
The Lord Nelson has a beautufl lobby. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The best quality of this hotel is the location. If your desire is to experience downtown Halifax, The Lord Nelson is located in the center of all downtown clubs, restaurants and shopping. The room was sufficient...nothing to rave about though. Simple and clean.
