Outdated

Old and outdated rooms even though I paid extra to get upgraded. Very friendly staff but the hotel is noisy and old. Would not stay there again.

A Fine Break in Luxury

I had read some reviews that went on about the lack of Staff... I have no idea where those comments came from because as soon as my suitcase had touched the sidewalk in front of the Hotel there were staff wanting to take my luggage to my room. I enter the Hotel and there were more staff wanting to carry my case up the stairs - informing me the 13 stairs to the lobby can be tiresome carrying a case! Check in went quick - It was busy however there were lots of staff on hand to expedite check in. The calls to the front desk were answered prompt and professional addressing me by name as soon as they answered the call. I can say that this trip will be remembered for a long time as it more than met my expectations. Fairmont Royal York is OLD SCHOOL CHARM!!!

Nice rooms right downtown

Right across the street from the train station, this hotel is perfect for people arriving by train and using Toronto's excellent public transport (including bike rentals available in some areas). They had some of the best pillows I've experienced. Room wasn't huge, but reasonable for this era of hotel.

Great Hotel to rest.....

It was great experience the room big enough to suit me, the equipment at the gym is good and of course the swimming pool excellent. The only thing was that when I arrive it was not one outside the hotel to give me a hand with my luggage-I guess because I arrive late at night.

Superior Customer Service

My wife and checked in on 09/04/2011 and Orbitz had this hotel's check in time listed as 1:00PM so you can imagine our dismay when I showed up at 2:30PM only to be told that check-in was at 3:00PM but that the room was not yet ready and that we would receive a call once it was. We checked our bags at the bell desk and took the PATH to the Eaton Center and passed the time shopping while we waited for a call. Finally at 5:30PM we was informed my room was ready. When we first entered the room which, was basic non smoking room with a Queen sized bed, the room smelt like damp carpet and was musky. I called the frontdesk and someone brought up an 'Ionizer' to the room to remedy the problem but while the service person was delivering it, the smoke detector in our room started going off for no apparent reason! At this point I went down to the front desk to voice my discontentment and was assisted by an associate by the name of Catherine. She was polite and courteous and after hearing of my ordeal offered to upgrade us to a one bedroom suite with its own living room. The conditions that led to this upgrade were obviously not ideal but the luxury, comfort and elegance of the suite more than made up for everything. The staff were all polite, courteuos and helpful at all times and the hotel amenities were in great condition. Baring the initial mishap, i would most certainly stay at the Royal York again.
