A Horrible start to our holiday

On arriving at the said hotel we found building work going on in the foyer with rubble and a hole in the wall, we approached reception and handed over paperwork, after a few moments head scratching by the assistant and some discussion with an assistant(not in English) she gave us 2 sets of keys to 2 rooms on entering the 1st room we found it was already occupied, we went back to the desk and the gave us another set of keys, we went to the said rooms and found them extremely dirty with stains on bed and carpets, broken heaters in each room stains on the wall broken sockets, curtains tied up and not on runners generally we were so disappointed we checked out immediatly and found alternative accomadation for the week. I will be demanding a full refund as we were in the hotel no longer than 15 minutes and there was no help or compassion to our plight. the staff were rude and inconsiderate speaking amonst themselves in there native tongue belittling us

when you don't have much money

This was the third time I've stayed at this hostel, and I was pleasantly surprised by how accommodating the man working behind the desk was. He upgraded our room for free because they hadn't filled all the rooms, and was very helpful in answering our questions. The beds were pretty uncomfortable, but they were clean, and we had clean towels. In the past, my room had been dirty and there were used towels and soap in the bathroom. So this was a welcome change that my companions and I embraced. These rooms are much cheaper than any other hotels in this area - the quad rooms fit 4-6 people. If you're going with a group of friends and you're only going to sleep a few hours, definitely try this place at least once.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

If you are visiting Toronto to spend a night out at The Guvernment, the Downtowner is a great place to crash. It's a short cab ride (about $11) or a long walk (quite enjoyable when it's warm out) from the club, almost a direct route.

Stay here if your vaccinations are current.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location. Very central and close to the subway. The hotel itself was horrible. Cockroaches in the bathroom. Bedbugs in the bed. Loud obnoxious kids in the hallway all night. Room was not cleaned the next day. A bag of trash was left in front of our door in the morning. Parking lot is big enough for 6 cars only and you must pay an additional fee to use it. Neighborhood is not a good family environment. Good location is all the Downtowner Inn has to offer. 2 blocks from Union Station. Spend the extra money and sleep in a real hotel.

Great price, staff, location, room, etc.

..amenities, outdoor appearance, indoor appearance (fairly good).. I was in town for a soccer tournament on a limited budget. It's not a ritzy hotel, but it fulfilled my needs well while considering my monetary limitations. On a side note, a raccoon casually passed me as I strolled in late at night, but someone had left food out front, so can ya blame the animal? Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

Money-saving tip: In Hotel

Park in the hotel's lot for $10 a day (or night). You can leave it there your whole stay, I believe. I doubt that there are more affordable options that have this convenient location.

Small, dirty, creepy

It doesn't look bad from the outside. However, when we checked in, I could tell right away that the place was a dive. Check in was very slow. While standing there, waiting for the lady to check us in, I noticed the monitor that displays various sections of the hotel. Not only was it never looked at, it was flickering so bad that you couldn't really see much. The place was so old that they still give out literal keys instead of swipe cards. When we walked into the room, I was creeped right out. The place was so tiny that the bed barely fit in it. The bedding appeared clean but the rest of the room was not. The bathroom and the entire room was dirty and falling apart. To top it all off, we got two $30 parking tickets while we were there. One at 9:57pm and the other at 8:07am the next morning. My bf was outside at 10am (two hours later) having a cigarette and noticed the meter people coming again. Apparently in Toronto, the third ticket they tow. There were not any 'no parking' signs on the street where we parked so we thought it was safe to park there. It reminded me of the movie "Vacancy". The place was so creepy that my bf made sure that he slept by the door.

The issues are: the room has

The issues are: the room has no option to open the window; all walls MUST be painted; some electrical staff (wall outlets) must be fixed (there is a hole in the wall!), carpet to be replaced; washroom doesn't have a power outlet; the bed looks not fresh-we run to Wallmart and bought new bed to put on the top of existing; also we bought new towels and Fantastic to clean the bathroom; breakfast is the only name?! There is no tea, no coffee, no cream - only pancake made of flour and water and artifisial juice. Parking spot was occupied with another car, although we paid for two nights!

My feedback from stay at Downtowner Inns

I can't even find words to describe my stay at the hotel. I checked in around midnight Friday night. The guy at the front desk was so impersonal and not at all courteous. I must say that this is the worst service I have ever received and I'm not exaggerating. He gave me the keys for room 25 which was dirty, the sheets for the bed hadn't been changed and there was a black bin bag with rubbish in the room and the room smelled bad; it was damp and stale. I went down to the reception to complain and his colleague gave me two keys; that I should check out two rooms; one was a dorm kind of room with what seemed like bunk beds whilst the other room was a single room which I opted for because that's what I had been charged $85 for. I got into the room, luckily the sheets had been changed but the room was not habitable because it had a severe offensive smell and it was very hot, the windows would not open , it had no Air conditioner. This has been the most deplorable and unsatisfactorily service I have ever experienced at any hotel; I wasn't expecting a 5-star service anyway but at least a decent clean room and hospitable staff. I left at 2.45 a.m. I will be contacting the hotel management to sort out a refund.
