3 nights family

It is a good choice with a few mentions: 1) the hotel shares the building with a college (la salle) and so the rooms are located floors 10-18. If you are claustrofobic, beware, you have to climb stairs. It is actually not too bad! 2) they charge parking fees of 21$/day Other than that the double beds are kinda small, but doable. The room is big and clean with big bathroom and small kitchenette that can be helpful. the morning buffet is 11$ and is good. Very close to highway (720). For me I would say walking distance from everything ...if walking 20-25 minutes doesn't scare you.

Just what we needed

The hotel is located right on Rue du Fort, which is basically the beginning of the St Catherines shopping district. The room was quiet at night, but still only minutes away from the city's nightlife. 3 Metro stations are within 10 minutes of the hotel. Overall, perfect location! The staff are VERY friendly and helpful! The front desk staff always offered helpful guides, maps and tips for enjoying the city. We chose not to have room cleaning service a few days, but the housekeepers always offered fresh towels when they saw us in the hallway to make sure we were comfortable. The buffet breakfast is nice, but with tax and tip it will cost you about $15 every morning. We enjoyed the buffet a few mornings, but we also bought cereal and milk for a more "budget" breakfast. Oh, and the room has a small fridge and microwave - perfect for storing and re-heating leftovers! It was a lovely stay, thank you Hotel Du Fort!

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

For longer travels around Montreal, dont take a taxi, take the metro! Taxi trips get expensive. The metro/transit system is super easy to navigate, cheap and a great way to experience the city.

Good business hotel

A good business hotel in a good location near a number of metro stops. No onsite restaurant but plenty in the immediate vicinity. Clean and comfortable, very quiet. Good value for the money.

MISLEADING PICTURES

Hotel looks nothing like the pics.I have stayed at several 3 star hotels in the past and had beautiful rooms and attractive surroundings. The hotel furniture is extremely dated (not the antique kind of dated furniture). The carpet looks dirty and old. The carpet in the hallway on the 11th floor where I stayed reeks. This hotel needs a major facelift!!!! The customer service was great though. The staff member I dealt with after getting over the shock of the ugliness of the room did her best to get me in another room. Quite frankly it was just as bland as the room I was in on the 14th floor but because it was a suite it made it more bearable for a family of 3. I personally went to other hotels to avoid staying here, they looked much better but due to the fact I did not have advanced booking the prices were higher than they were when I was making these reservations. Please note I ended up booking this hotel based on the reviews it got. I think they are only posting the reviews that are handing out compliments!

Needs a facelift!

I went to Montreal to vacation to get away from the summer heat of FL. I choose this hotel because of the reviews that I read through carefully. All I can say is 'to each his own'. I was shocked by the 'oldness' of the hotel when I arrived to my room. The lobby was not very impressive therefore my bubble began to burst before I even entered the room. Not in a million years would I have dreamed that so many people would have given such good reviews to a holel that looked like it was built and furnished from the early 70's and has not had a rennovation or facelift since. The carpets in the hallway on the 11th floor where I stayed stinks!!!!! Literally reeks. The carpets in both the rooms I visited are old and dirty. I was originally placed in a room on the 14th floor but had my room changed after I got over the shock of the ugliness of the room. The new room was not more updated it was just now a suite, better for a family of 3. I must say however that the close proximity to the metro and the center of the city is a plus. Customer service was great, I had to pay $30 more per night to upgrade to my new room but the staffer who assisted me went above and beyond. If you are looking for a beautiful view or if you are used to staying in beautiful hotels, this is not the one for you. There are much nicer hotels where the prices are comparable if booked in advance.

Great hotel, especially for the price!

Great room - it had a fantastic view of downtown Montreal, close to the metro and plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby. I also used the fitness room, which was great. The room was spacious and cleaned meticulously everyday. It even had a mini-fridge!
