Nice Could Be Better

Its not a bad hotel.Suites are nice.Staff can be hit or miss. Construction project going on next store so be informed.Price for the hotel was reasonable. Price for food in general on the island is high. You must search for local dining spots for the best prices(unless money is no object). Places like EATS, TREATS Were reasonable price for breakfast. Heminways (Hotel resturant)was not worth the price in my opinion. Fosters is super market just like at home and is in walking distance get all your general supplies bottles of water, drinks snacks or whatever your needs may be. Remember the US dollar is not equal to the Cayman dollar be prepared. If you rent a car they drive on the oposite side of the street and gas is over $4 a gallon. Red Sail Sports (Its right on the beach at the hotel) is over priced. You can get the same services for less. Just ask at the Hotel desk they will help you out. I'll recomend Stingray city and The Dolphin Adventure(if you do the Dolphin Adventure might as well go to the turtle farm its accross the street and go to "HELL" the attraction it is close by you won't need much time to see Hell. Its something to see take a couple pictures and go.) and the horseback riding was great(Do the sundown ride not the morning ride too hot).

Places called Eats and another one called Treats were great for breakfast. Fosters supermaket for general items. There a place called the Sunshine Grill it located in a Hotel complex behind Eats was very reasonable. If money is no object there plenty of resturants to chose from.

Nice place, great location, great staff

We used the hotel mostly for a place to sleep. The pool was crowded with families and little children. Our "ocean view" room was really a "palm tree view" room, but to their credit the staff was very courteous and helpful in moving us to room with an actual ocean view. The doors to the hotel are locked at night which doesn't seem to be the norm on 7 Mile Beach, but there was no indication that the added security was necessary. The small wet bar in the room (refrigerator, sink, microwave & set of eating dishes) was excellent for having snacks in the room.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Fosters is the local grocery store a 5 minute drive north of the hotel. It's a great spot to pick up snacks, sandwiches and fresh fruit. Their prepared deli sandwiches were great for taking on the boat and to the airport. They're not "great" but they're good and much cheaper than the airport food. :-)

Family Getaway

Hotel is nice and clean. Disappointing not having free WiFI anywhere in the complex. Location perfect. Due to less than ideal weather condition this expensive vacation was disappointing.

Mostly Yes and a Little No

Yes: -The hotel is only about a 10/15 minute ride from the airport- which is great. -Upon checking in, our room was ready right away and we were able to go right up instead of waiting for a few hours. (Check in time 3 pm.) -The room was very large, clean and our ocean view was lovely. The bed/pillows were comfortable. -There's a few places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. We were able to walk to a supermarket and grab things for breakfast to save some cash. -If you don't feel like going on a tour, you can always call for a cab and check out a site of interest. We got a cab to go to the turtle farm- It was much better doing it on our own instead of waiting for a bus/group. It's pretty easy to catch a cab, just make sure there's not too many people in the cab (mini van) otherwise it might take you a long time to get back to where your going. -You can pay with USD anywhere you go. -The hotel allowed us a late check out, which helped since our flight home wasn't until 4 pm. -Though it was hurricane season, the weather was AMAZING. Hot, yes. Humid, slightly. But there was a lovely breeze, and it didn't rain once! -The staff was very helpful, friendly, and accomodating. No: -There was crane work going on next to the hotel. -One of the restaurants at the hotel was not open because of construction. -The restaurant which was open, was of course, over priced. -The water activities are ALL extra. At most hotels, you can take out kayaks/ snorkels/goggles for free - you had to pay at this resort. We were able to set up a sting-ray tour and rent a jet ski through Red Sail Sports (at our hotel) compared to other places I've been, it's pricey - but worth it.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

There's a pizza shop, 'Gino's across the street and to the right, about a 5 minute walk. You can grab a slice for dinner here and there to save cash, since it can be so expensive to dine out. You can also ask them to deliver to the hotel if you're planning for a family meal. Also, about a 10 minute walk (across the street and to the left) is a great supermarket - Foster's Food Fair. It's a good idea to grab a few things, especially if you have kids - granola bars, popcorn, cereal, etc. It will save you cash at the end of your trip. BUY WATER outside the hotel. the bottles of water they put in your room are 6 dollars each! You have a toaster, a fridge and a micro in your room- use them wisely :)

Great hotel!

Upon arrival at check in we were offered glasses of champagne and welcoming smiles from the desk clerk. This was a lovely hotel as far as location, room size, (one bedroom suites) and balcony. Room #8205 has a great view of the pool and water with a huge balcony. I will definately stay here again. I usually stay at the Ritz Carlton hotels when I travel but am glad that I stayed here as the Ritz was so large and crowded that people were standing in line at the restaurants for breakfast. We ate dinner outdoors at Hemmingway's. The ambiance and the food was excellent!

Good location, good facilities

Great location with a very helpful staff. In the heart of 7 mile beach and a 10 minute bus ride from anywhere this location is stellar. The beach area is fine if a little too active. There's a red sail dive shop connected to the hotel so lots of action there. The gym was OK and offers personal training. There's yoga on the roof and any water sport you can imagine for a price. There's a local grocery a 5 minute walk away and rooms have coffee maker, frig, toaster, micowave and sink area. We did breakfast and lunch in the room and had nicer dinners out. This and taking the bus ($2 ci/per person) were real cost savers. This is a very pricey destination. Staff were outstanding and the concierge was to shelf. Take advantage of this for dinner reccos etc. The best advice I heard in general is to take a moment and introduce yourself or ask how things are going before asking for something. That goes a long way here. Now the question I always wonder. Is this place a good value? We paid about $200/night in early Dec and I feel it was very much worth it. Other general advice. If you're going to Georgetown to shop go on a Friday if you can. Otherwise the place is overrun with folks from cruise ships. Remember to slow down a little. This is the islands mon what's the hurry. Enjoy.

Fantastic family getaway

The 7 mile beach is fantastic. This is also the most beautiful ocean I have seen, and I have been to a lot of places. We enjoyed the beach, went shopping to Georgetown and went to the turtle farm.

Nice Stay - Great Beach

Nice area, beautiful beach and warm water. Hotel staff well trained and friendly. Dinners were expensive but good. There is a grocery in walking distance that is well stocked and has a cafeteria set up. Stingray City is a must do. Flowers Ocean Swim was well run and fun. Frequent van service makes transportation easy at $2.50 US per person per ride.

Fantastic birthday celebration

The hotel was situated in a great location of the seven miles beach. We got really lucky and got the upgrade to the two suites with french balcony. The room had amazing view of the beach and the pool. It was very clean. The turn down service was very nice. The staffs were very helpful and would go extra length to ensure we had the best experience possible. We would go back and stay there again for sure.

Our Trip June of '10

Many things to do at the location and on the island. Hotel was beautiful and and a good value. Would stay there again. Reviews of the staff are mixed. For the most part they were cordial and helpful, but I wouldn't say necessarily friendly across the board. A few of the staff were exceptional. The whole trip to Cayman was WONDERFUL. Rent a car if you can drive on the opposite side of the road or take $$$$$$ for cabs.
