Good for families

Nice accomodations, not luxury though, in a great location. Walking distance to grocery store and several restaurants. Bus stop right outside for easy and inexpensive trasport along 7 Mile Beach. Food at Hemingway's (hotel restaurant) was very good, as was the service. Pool bar and lunch menu are also convenient. I would say 4 full days on the island are plenty, unless you plan to do excursions farther afield. Easily saved $600 on food by hitting the grocery store on day 1 and utilizing the in room kitchen. Everything on the island was very expensive. If you're going to eat out every meal, I would expect to spend $200/day easy to feed a family of four.

Take the local bus instead of a taxi. The bus will pretty much pick you up and drop you off anywhere you want along 7 Mile Beach for about $2US per person. By contrast, a 10 minute cab ride is about $30US. Also, try to book excursions on line in advance if you can or through the hotel. Both offer discounts. Cruise ships come to town on Tuesday's and Wednesday's and lots of things book up on those days, even in the off season.

Nice place, great location, great staff

We used the hotel mostly for a place to sleep. The pool was crowded with families and little children. Our "ocean view" room was really a "palm tree view" room, but to their credit the staff was very courteous and helpful in moving us to room with an actual ocean view. The doors to the hotel are locked at night which doesn't seem to be the norm on 7 Mile Beach, but there was no indication that the added security was necessary. The small wet bar in the room (refrigerator, sink, microwave & set of eating dishes) was excellent for having snacks in the room.

Money-saving tip: Short drive from hotel

Fosters is the local grocery store a 5 minute drive north of the hotel. It's a great spot to pick up snacks, sandwiches and fresh fruit. Their prepared deli sandwiches were great for taking on the boat and to the airport. They're not "great" but they're good and much cheaper than the airport food. :-)

Good Experience

Grand Cayman Beach Suites is a great place to stay in Cayman. This was my first visit to the cayman Island and the Island and the Hotel are both fantastic. Do not go by the looks of the hotel from out side as it look a bit small on the first look. The rooms are huge it has a bedroom a living room small kitchen with a microwave and fridge, plates and all the silver ware. The best part about the hotel is the location it is right on the 7 mile beach. The beach is clean and the water is clear you can even snorkel right in that beach as it is rich with marine life. Also one more thing the bar in the hotel is very expensive but the bar next door is very cheap almost half price just take a walk on the beach and go next door to get a drink you will save a lot of money ;)

Sightseeing tip: In Hotel

They have a red sail shop in the hotel but we found them to be very expensive. If you find travel guide you will find a lot of locals tours and recreation activities for decent price they also pick you up and drop you off so don't worry about the distance.

Great place

We had a third floor room with walkout balcony overlooking the pool and the ocean. We shopped rates and the price was comparable to the Westin and Marriott, but the rooms are much, much nicer. I have stayed all 3 places and would stay here if I had the choice and the price remains right every time. We really liked that it is a relatively small place so you don't feel crowded anywhere like you would at a Marriott, we never had to share the hot tub with anybody and had the workout room pretty much all to ourself.

Walk 3 blocks to the Fosters Food Fair and get food/drink cheap. Bottles of water for less than $1 when they charge $8-9 at the hotel.

Good location, good facilities

Great location with a very helpful staff. In the heart of 7 mile beach and a 10 minute bus ride from anywhere this location is stellar. The beach area is fine if a little too active. There's a red sail dive shop connected to the hotel so lots of action there. The gym was OK and offers personal training. There's yoga on the roof and any water sport you can imagine for a price. There's a local grocery a 5 minute walk away and rooms have coffee maker, frig, toaster, micowave and sink area. We did breakfast and lunch in the room and had nicer dinners out. This and taking the bus ($2 ci/per person) were real cost savers. This is a very pricey destination. Staff were outstanding and the concierge was to shelf. Take advantage of this for dinner reccos etc. The best advice I heard in general is to take a moment and introduce yourself or ask how things are going before asking for something. That goes a long way here. Now the question I always wonder. Is this place a good value? We paid about $200/night in early Dec and I feel it was very much worth it. Other general advice. If you're going to Georgetown to shop go on a Friday if you can. Otherwise the place is overrun with folks from cruise ships. Remember to slow down a little. This is the islands mon what's the hurry. Enjoy.

Wonderful place

Red Sail dive shop in the hotel, with diving, sailing, jet skis, snorkeling. good food on-site, plus myriad of restaurants walkable. Only negative is the tennis court is across the way (but the security staff will even drive you there and come back too)
