The staff make this hotel. All requests were greeted with kindness and superb service. Overall: While the rooms are somewhat tired, with clean but well used carpets and standard chinese (pretty darn hard) beds, they are clean and well appointed with good linens and nice bath areas. The common areas are beautiful. Food: The restaurants are good, if a bit pricey. Room service options are somewhat limited, but well priced, and delivered promptly. In room water kettle with tea and instant coffee, and the daily complementary bottled waters are a very nice touch. Amenities: The spa services are well priced and excellent (ask for #240 for a wonderful massage after long days of sightseeing). Security: Located on a main street, I felt very safe and welcomed here. Location: A 20 minute walk (taxi time depends on traffic, but approx. 15-20 minutes) to Tiananmen square/Forbidden City or in another direction, a 20 minute walk to the Silk Market. Travel/Tourist Services: Excellent service and well priced. Taxi: Easy to get a taxi - not normal in Beijing!! Interesting: In the evenings, traditional Chinese music and Tai Chi are available in the lobby, near the lobby bar.

The room was spacious and comfortable. The staff was polite but lack overall efficiency. I made two reservations and only one showed. I had to print out the reservations to prove myself and had to explain every day the same details. Same thing occurred at checkout where they wanted to charge me more than what was indicated on the reservation. I had to, once again, print out another reservation proof. What a hassle. Besides that, the hotel vacinity did not have much restaurants or stores besides the Sidan Shopping Mall. I would not stay there again.

Would recommend staying here. Staff are friendly and helpful and our room was clean and comfortable. Had dinner in restaurant and would also recommend this as there is a good buffet dinner option and the wait staff are great. Used the hotels tour desk which I can also recommend. Position is good. Only one metro stop to Forbidden City and Tianamen Square. Also walking distance to Xidan department store area and good coffee lounge.

The hotel is perfect for all modes of transportation to see all local attractions. It is clean and well run. Personnel is very helpful and curtious. The on site restaurant has a good menu and is reasonable in its prices!! I would recommend the Mercure Hotel to all.

Pleasantly surprised with the hotel. Running water and air conditioner were up to par. Friendly and helpful staff and bell hops waiving down taxis for your convenience. Breakfast was good and restaurant at second floor was pretty decent. Internet available at business center along with tourist center. Located close to Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven.
