A solid hotel that I'd use again
It can be difficult to find a good hotel when traveling in China. Local budget hotels, while extremely cheap, will usually have issues with plumbing and service. High to mid end chains can be inconsistent and/or pricey. After my stay, I'd say that the Novotel sits safely in between the two extremes. The price is very affordable, and the quality and cleanliness are on point. The Novotel is a safe bet for business travel or vacationers who don't want to sacrifice comfort for cost. It's not going to blow your mind, but if you need to spend a week in Beijing like I did, it will do you right without costing a billion dollars. The location is perhaps the only weak spot. There is a subway line right outside the door which is great. However, there is little of interest within walking distance. Though, it is near some shopping malls if that's your thing. Aside from that, for tourists, it's about a 20 RMB ($3) cab fare to Nanlouguxiang and even closer to Tian'an Men.

Short walk from hotel
Don't be afraid of the subway right next the hotel. Cabs are cheap, but the never ending traffic in Beijing can be a downer.

Excellent location
This hotel is very clean and it strategically located in close proximity to the subway which is very convenient to get to the major attractions the city has to offer. You can get to anywhere via subway for less than 35 cents. The hotel staff have a good command of English and are very friendly & service oriented. I highly recommend the Tang Restaurant for Dim Sum and dinner. A fabulous Cantonese style restaurant. The hotel name "Xin Qiao" is well know to most of the taxi drivers.

Shopping tip:
Not Applicable
When haggling at the silk market or other similar markets where bartering is permitted, please to do your best to bargain the price to 1/5 of the asking price. For example: If the sale clerk ask for $100.00, counter offer only $15.00 and stand firm. Buy it for $20.00 only!

Great location next to Metro
This hotel worked out very well for me. It is located along the line 2 metro which will take you to many of the great tourists attractions in Beijing. The room was big, but the one I had didn't have a window. Apperntly this was not a big deal because I didn't notice that it was lacking a window until the moring. For the price I would stay here again.

When visiting the forbidden city do NOT follow pretty women to have a cup of tea. They will charge you a lot for tea!

Great Hotel
My second time staying at this hotel and it was a pleasure yet again. The only down side is that even though I had reserved two standard rooms with king size beds they told me that there were no kings left. Was able to negotiate to get one of the rooms moved up to the superior room with king bed but the other one stayed as twin beds. Aside from this issue the stay was remarkable.

Sightseeing tip:
Short walk from hotel
Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City are very close by and marvelous to visit. However, be cautioned of an ongoing SCAM.... You may be approached by 2 young women who speak English. They will ask to hang out at a cafe and chat. When the bill comes it will be VERY EXPENSIVE... (mine was 830usd) They expect you to pay and they will split the profits with the cafe owner in the end.

Best Location
In any business, location is key. Well, this hotel is the best in terms of location. It is just steps from the #2 line of the subway. The area is bustling with stores and entertainment. Big shopping mall, nice local restaurants, massage places, all kinds of shops. The hotel is of very good value and coupled with the location, value is unbeatable. Even though it's a 4 star hotel, the value is greater than some 5 star hotels in not so bustling area.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
The hotel restaurants are expensive and if you are adventurous, try the local restaurants and shops. There's also a McDonalds and Starbucks two blocks away (south of the hotel). Nice bakery right across from the hotel. Bank of China right next door.
