Don't go
Got food poisining second day. Had to forfiet zip line money and never felt better until Saturday. Food is just awful.....Plain and boring........even on theme nights....If you are Spanish and like beans and rice with every meal you will be fine. Breakfast is best meal of the day. Weather was great. Pools were not clean...Front desk was very helpful. Had pharmacy send in some Pepto Bismol to help......Should have gone to Carib coast not Pacific. Music was constant up till 2 in the morning. Stay home. Go to another hotel.......

Wonderful Staff and Great Food!
My boyfriend and I came to Costa Rica for a short 4-night getaway, and we were very pleased with our experience. The resort is relatively small, and there were not too many dining options, but the food that was available was tasty. There are very few vegetarian options, so prepare for this fact if you do not eat meat. I am a new convert to vegetarianism, and at one of the restaurants, I had to eat chicken in order to get any protein out of my meal (guess I can't really call myself a true vegetarian...). The staff was extremely friendly; we arrived at 1:30am and the man at the desk was extremely helpful and friendly, even in the middle of the night. There were VERY FEW guests at the resort during our trip (early March), which was both a blessing and a drawback. No crowds in the pool, but less restaurant options and fewer opportunities to socialize. We took a day trip to go ziplining through the Swiss travel group located at the hotel, and we had a great time! 25 ziplines, horseback riding, and hiking with a free lunch for only $111! One of the only real problems we had was getting to and from the airport. There is allegedly a bus that guests can take that only costs $6/person, but even when I emailed the hotel to inquire about it, they recommended taking a taxi. The taxi cost us about $100 each way... not something that made us want to celebrate. We wish the hotel had provided some sort of transportation!

Short drive from hotel
Head into Puntarenas when cruise ships are in town... there are cheap markets. Don't buy gifts in the hotel... they are too expensive!

Wonderful!
We arrived for our honeymoon after dark and the hotel staff was awesome about getting us in quickly! Our room, which we booked as a "non-view" room since it was cheaper, had a huge glass window-wall with a door that opened out onto a brick, shared patio. A couple steps over some hills and sand, and we were right on the beach! The hammocks were right outside our room, too. It was the perfect spot. The room was clean. There was tile throughout, and we spent a lot of time on the sand, so it was no surprise that we tracked in a lot of sand. There were little, tiny ant sort of bugs (they were so small that I couldn't even make out what they were), but that is to be expected when the room is ON THE BEACH. We also left our door open for many hours during the day, so the four or five little things running around in the bathroom didn't bother us at all. The pillows were horrible. They were down/feather pillows, which offered no support at all. We will bring our own next time! There were a lot of activities for people of all ages. We went zip-lining and horseback riding on a day trip through Swiss Travel, which is in the hotel. It was absolutely amazing, and we definitely recommend it! We had 30 minute massages the next day which was awesome. My husband is a licensed massage therapist, and even he enjoyed it! We had our nails done, and got a great deal. He had a manicure and I had a pedicure, but she was nice enough to charge me for a mani/pedi combo, instead of charging us individually! I even got a design on my toes and she didn't charge extra for that! It was a GREAT pedicure, too! The main pool area was definitely a lively spot with lots of people and music and drinking. There was a more secluded pool that we went to a couple times, and it was a nice change of pace. Also, the area near the hammocks was far enough away from the pool that the noise didn't bother you, but you could still enjoy the sound of the waves and the birds and take in the amazing breeze. The food & drinks were enjoyable. The drinks were a little weak at some of the bars, but seemed stronger at the main bar. We weren't there to get drunk, though, so we liked being able to enjoy drinks throughout the entire day without having to be carried to our room. We REALLY enjoyed the food. There was SO MUCH! Breakfast and lunch were similar on most days, but dinner was a different theme every night. Our favorite was Argentina (lots of meats)! We also LOVED the Latin-American restaurant. One night we did a private "Romantic Dinner" in a hut near the beach. It's not part of the all-inclusive deal, but it was worth the extra expense. The lobster we ordered was gigantic. We also got flowers and a bottle of champagne. It was a neat experience. The people there are all very, very nice. There is a language barrier with a few of the people, but most are easy to communicate with. Any snootiness from the staff was likely just a language barrier. All the people that we dealt with on a personal level (scheduling our dinners, massages, day trip) all remembered us throughout our whole stay, which is always nice! The beach is definitely not a white sand, blue water beach, but that's something you have to understand. The sand is dark because of the volcanoes (from what I've been told by friends & family), which causes the water to be dark. There is definitely a strong current which causes the dark sand to be stirred up. You will not be able to get out of the water clean! There are sticks and rocks and logs and whatnot on the beach which some people consider dirty. I consider it natural and it didn't distract from the beauty at all. There were iguanas everywhere, especially outside our room, which was awesome! One day, we were sleeping under a hut by the pool and woke up to an iguana climbing on my husband (we think the iguana was trying to blend in with his swim-trunks)! All in all, it was an AWESOME experience and we are already figuring out when we can come back and bring family with us!

The best thing you can do to prepare yourself for an enjoyable trip is to understand the beach and the staff. A lot of complaints that I've seen are based off of information that is common sense: there is a language barrier; this isn't a white sand beach; we are ON A BEACH, which could mean beach bugs. As long as you are aware of those things and don't let them bother you, you will definitely enjoy it!

Nice vacation spot
We relaxed and walked on the beach. Too much current for swimming in the ocean while we were there. Lovely pools. Staff was polite. Good food. Pleasant and pretty, would be great for people with children.

Ok resort.
This hotel was nice in appearance. However the all inclusive life style not for us. the drinks were watered down with cheap alcohol. It was five dollars for an absolute drink that was small. The music played until 1am therefore hard to sleep. The rooms were nice and clean. Lots of activities. However beach you won't swim or sit on. NOT THE COSTA RICA flavor. I won't return.
