Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

get out of the touristy walking district and go to some of the other areas. The locals tend to go for the Meatpacking district for new restaurants pubs and bars. Walking dist is ok if you want chain stores and tourist food.

Old and needs cleaning. Not a 4 star hotel!

My wife and I checked into this hotel after a late flight into Copenhagen. Then it all went down hill. We got to a hot, old, worn, smelly room #205, opened the windows then looked for the A/C- there was none. We rang reception and were told none of the rooms have A/C. I then asked about a fan and was told they had ran out and then I was hung up on! We decided to have a cold shower to cool off and try and get some sleep- we got to bed and looked at it and found several hairs around on and in the bed! There was even one under my wife's pillow!! We were furious by now but due to the rudeness of reception from the call before we did not call. We were tempted to walk out to another hotel but as I had pre-paid the £110 price through eee bookers we could not afford this option. Do not book this hotel! And it is the last time I will pre-pay a hotel. I have learnt my lesson thanks to the 3 star sold as a 4 star Ascot hotel in Copenhagen!!

Pre cruise getaway

The staff was courteous and very helpful. The hotel was clean and located next door to Tivoli Gardens. On the downside, you have to carry heavy luggage up one flight of stairs before riding the elevator. We found this very inconvenient.

Excellent value for the money

The hotel is located right in the heart of downtown, easy walking distance to Tivoli, the main train station and the downtown shopping street. However, being downtown in a hotel with no A/C in the summer (no A/C is very common in European hotels), the windows will be open at night and in the downtown area, that means lots of noise (drunks, breaking glass, loud music.) The room was clean and nice, the bathroom had a nice shower and was clean, and the hotel breakfast was delicious, plentiful, and had great variety. I'd definitely stay there again (but bring some earplugs.)

Rema 1000 is a grocery store very close to the hotel where you can buy beer, soda, and small meals and save a fortune not eating out.

Horrible Bed, average mass breakfast

For a 4star hotel the bed was horrible, it was so soft (the body was sinking in the bed, not good for anybody especially not for sleepers on the belly) plus the pillow was so hard and round like a ball that you cannot sleep and relax at all, pollow was inflated by artificial fabrics. When we asked if it's possible to bring us a softer pollow, the answer was: "...sorry, it's not possible". Breakfast was ok, bot far from brilliant or great. Quality was good but all self serviced in a big hall, felling like in a train station plus quing on the soluble coffee automat. So price value proposition can be massivle improved.

Hotel Ascot, Copenhagen

Within an easy walk from the Copenhagen Central Train Station, the Hotel Ascot is a good deal. I was traveling with my two adult daughters. The hotel lobby is very attractive, but room we had was spare - little furniture or decorations or charm. However, it was extremely comfortable. Bedding for two in one room, for one in the other, plus a long shelf-like desk, made the room work well. And while our room faced the street, it was very quiet at night. The large Danish breakfast, with lots of choices, was another major asset. We would recommend it; it was very convenient and comfortable, but visitors should be warned that the rooms themselves are rather ordinary, less charming than you might want in a country where so much is beautiful.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

There is plenty of shopping in Copenhagen - and everywhere! We spent far too much time shopping in Copenhagen, assuming that when we went to the smaller villages elsewhere in Denmark, there wouldn't be much to see, but each town seems to have many of the same shops. Go off the beaten tracks into the more interesting neighborhoods, and do more museum and castle visits while in Copenhagen.

Good central location

I went to a conference at the Copenhagen Business School. From the hotel I was able to walk for 10 minutes to the metro station and from there take a direct train to CBS which is only four stops away. The central train station is even closer (5 minute walk). The hotel is very centrally located. It is a 10 minute walk from the main pedestrian shopping street. Although the room was small (it was a small single room), it was clean and comfortable with free wifi, a small fridge, and a sink. Breakfast was included in the (very reasonable) price and it was a wonderful buffet with freshly cut and appetizing fruit (every day different), a variety of wonderful breads, cheeses, cold meats, salmon, etc. It is a short taxi ride from the airport (15-20 minutes) and one can also use the metro to and from the airport. The staff was helpful and courteous, and everyone spoke English. I will consider staying at the Ascot hotel in future visits to Copenhagen.

Dining tip: Long walk from hotel

I had a really nice dinner at a japanese restaurant called "Umami". It is a longish walk, approx. half an hour but very pleasant. You can walk from the hotel through the main shopping street (Stroget) and eventually get to it. It is not a cheap place but worth every penny if you are into Japanese food.
