Mediterranean-style Punta Cana hotel spoils with all-inclusive luxury
Barcelo Punta Cana – All-Inclusive, a beachfront resort on the eastern shores of the Dominican Republic, accommodates travelers with a taste for restaurant hopping, gambling, water sports and simply relaxing by the swim-up bar. But the sprawling resort manages to be kid friendly, too. In addition to a supervised kid's club, the hotel tempts with its own versions of discos for children ages 4 to 12 and 13 to 17.
Highlights
- 798 rooms overlooking the gardens, ocean or lagoon-style pool
- Casino
- Swim-up bar
- Kids' club, mini disco, playground and pool
- Spa treatments
Rooms
Guests unwind in tropical rooms covering a variety of layouts. Décor mimics the breezy style of the rest of Barcelo Punta Cana – All-Inclusive, with colors like amber, beige, green and navy creating an earthy feel. A mix of contemporary rooms -- think mod lamps and glistening floors -- and more traditional spaces -- driven by linen curtains and floral-printed bedspreads -- appeals to tastes on opposite ends of the spectrum. Some rooms look out to the ocean via furnished patios, while standard amenities offer conveniences like LCD TVs, mini-bar with sodas, beer and water, plus Internet access (fees apply).
Features
By day, Barcelo Punta Cana – All Inclusive turns into a playground abuzz with tennis matches, beach volleyball, wall climbing, water polo and more. A kid's club hosts supervised activities for children ages 4 to 12. Parents have their own diversions, from Metamorphosis spa (complete with Vichy shower) to the two swimming pools. By night, even the younger set -- ages 4 to 12 and 13 to 17 -- can flock to their own discos while older patrons enjoy the casino and multiple dining and cocktailing options on the property.
Dining
The all-inclusive package at Barcelo Punta Cana – All Inclusive compels diners to try the global menu of flavors on the property, starting with the all-day buffet at Alcazar. El Marlin, another favorite, dishes up barbecue, seafood and a champagne brunch. For more upscale eats, guests book a table at teppanyaki haunt Tokio, French restaurant Paris and the Italian boite Roma.Transportation

Nice resort, terribly managed
Went on vacation with friends. The management of the resort was horrible. Although there were nice rooms, water went out frequently. Food was mediocre, most of my friends got sick.

Nice getaway for the price
This was the first time I ever stayed at an all-inclusive resort and I went with four of my friends. This one was nice but a little dated. It could use some upgrades. I have to say it was very clean and most of the staff was friendly and helpful if they knew how to speak English. The food and drinks were great on certain days and then not too good on others. The restaurants book up very quickly so you have to stand on this long line very early in the morning to make reservations. There was a leak in our bathroom and the sink was clogged. The disco was ok, they mainly played Spanish music which is understandable but they should have played more worldly music to accomadate their guests from the US and Europe. Other than those issues its a nice place to stay if your on a budget and need a quick getaway. PS I dont recommend using Copa Airlines because we had a bad experience when it came to our peronal items and their pilots don't know know how to land planes. It felt like we nearly fell out the sky each time.

Gorgeous!
We just returned home from a week at Barcelo and we had a really great time. Its a beautiful resort, the BEST beach possible. The rooms need some updating and the plumbing and hot water in shower was more of an annoyance than a problem. We mostly ate the buffet, and there was a lot of different choices each day. You have to remember that in a foreign country that food isn't prepared like in the states...the bread on buffet were awesome, the hamburgers and hot dogs and french fries were great next to the pool. The drinks were good and strong! The bartenders at night ([...]) were funny and really cool. One of the downsides is the market they set up..the people are relentless in trying to sell you any and everything! Its irritating. There is also people from Mariana selling excursions during the day on the beach and pool. Annoying. We did take an excursion to Saona Island and it was 12 hours from Barcelo to Bayahibe and back for the the day trip....The best part is the BEACH at Barcelo. Its clean, its sparkling, gorgeous water and its very private for the most part. We enjoyed it very much.I would say this resort isn't for those expecting a 5 Star experience and excellent food...its great if you are looking to relax, get a good tan, and enjoy the sunny weather. The pools are nice, the entertainment is okay, and the food is okay.

Food was bad
I enjoyed the staff, but the food was not good at all. The hotel is not as clean as other Bacelo's I visited during my trip. It can take up to three hours to get a room.

Do not leave the hotel to go shopping, its not a good experience, as soon as you get to the market you get attacked. The hotel staff are friendly and have activities thorough out the day.

We had a great time, but some bad stuff
My wife and I had a great time on our honey moon, very beautiful beach, hotel with a nice big pool, the buffet restaurant and bars were ok, the Dominican and French restaurants were very good (we only tried those because you have to get up early for reservations), the room was nice with a bottle of Champagne for our honey moon, king size bed and nice ocean view and also to the pool. We enjoyed our trip to swim w/ dolphins. The toilet was dirty when we arrived, even though they put a "sterile" sign on it, we called the reception to clean it up and they only passed a paper towel and left, the pool bar closes at 6:00 (to early). Some of the hotel workers were very nice but others not so much. We would visit again Punta Cana. And the hotel was not bad for the price.

Average at best!
Cutting Corners! That is the motto here. In desperate need of updateing. They will dance around getting you a decent room location, like close to the pool(took 2hrs for me). Not enough servers, not enough seats for the speciality restaurants, cleansliness around food trays needs to be addressed and more options on food and drinks would be nice. You will wait for your food + drinks! Game room has 6 arcade games-all out-of-order, kids pool had 2 slides roped off for awhile.

4 times I shoppped and EVERYTIME I was shortchanged by cashier(same amount evrytime). When questioned they just returned the difference with no apology. Seemed like common practice.
