Hilton Addis Ababa hotel
Hotel Overview
All but a night's sleep
Walls were paper thin; conversation next door kept me up all night. Breakfast was excellent.

some good and some bad
This hotel is great in some ways, and not so good in other ways. Great: *Lots of nice amenities (e.g., pool, tennis, fitness room, shops, business center, tasty restaurant) *Very friendly service Not so good: *Rooms are a bit run down (doesn't look like there has been any renovation or even much maintenance in many years) I also had a chance to see the Sheraton, where my friend got married, and I can see why they charge so much more. But the Hilton is a good value if you are looking for something less extravagant.

Not Bad!
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was decently large with a balcony overlooking well-tended gardens. The decor was quite dated and the bathroom not very well-maintained. The food was not that great.

Hilton Addis Ababa
The Hilton Addis Ababa has the distinction of being one of two or three hotels in town to be affiliated with a major worldwide chain. Other than this, and its good location, fair amount of amenities and shops, and possibly genuinely friendly staff, there is not much to recommend it. The comfort of the beds and pillows reminds the guest of cheap hospital furnishings, the walls seem to be as thick as cardboard, and the restaurants are average at best, as well as expensive, even by American or European standards. When one considers that the room costs as much per night as the average Addis Ababa resident earns in four months, and that plenty of comparable accommodation can be found at a fraction of the cost, there is little reason to stay here. I have stayed in many hotels throughout the African continent and indeed the entire world, and this ranks much closer to the bottom than the top, especially when one considers that this dump, for lack of a better term, depends on brand name recognition to justify its obvious shortcomings.

Don't forget to try traditional Ethiopian food while you're in Addis Ababa. You can even find it at the hotel; however, for a more genuine experience, don't be afraid to go into the city and have it there. Look where the locals are eating, if it is crowded, then the food is good.
