Brest hotels: savour its seafood delights
Going to the convention centre in Brest gives you a chance to see one of Europe's most modern theatres. Each year Brest hosts the Puce de Brest, an international flea market attracting thousands of sellers. Visitors heading to the city in June can also enjoy the local Strawberry Festival.
Most Brest hotels serve fresh seafood and have an impressive list of French vintage wines. Within the city, you can find more restaurants serving seasonal fish, as well as classic French dishes. Amour de Pomme de Terre specialises in potato dishes, although it does serve other specialties too.
Wine and food enthusiasts can browse many speciality stores in Brest. Brest hotels tucked into the suburbs are well placed for speciality shops, as well as local vendors offering bric-à-brac and handcrafted goods. Head to the city centre for international brands, designer stores and independent boutiques.
Major Points of Interest
Brest played a large role in World War II for France, so check out the dioramas in Tanguy Tower depicting the city at the eve of the war. Very little historic architecture survived the war. However, you can visit the medieval tower Tour Tanguy. The 210-feet high drawbridge is also worth a visit.
Sport in Brest is all about endurance. The Paris-Brest-Paris is a 1200-mile bicycle ride, and sometimes the Tour de France begins there. Brest is also home to a league title winning hockey team, Les Albatros. The football team in Brest is known as Stade Brestois 29. The team plays at the Stade Francis le Blé in Brest.
