while initially the Novotel Colmar
while initially the Novotel Colmar appears to be less than the usual standard of Novotels, we were pleasantly surprised by our experience. The hotel itself is more like an Australian motel and it is outside the city of Colmar in a more industrial area, right next to the airport. however the welcome was warm and the staff tried to accommodate our limited French, usually working out what we wanted. A big plus was the breakfast area being outside when we stayed there. It was unseasonably hot and being outside in the vicinity of the pool to have breakfast was very pleasant. The rooms are small and the air conditioning really struggled, but I suspect on a more normal summer day, it would be fine. I would recommend the novotel Colmar if you have a car and are prepared to lower your expectations a little.

not a 5 minute drive...taxis are limited
the hotel is average, and not close to the center of town. You will need a taxi and they are limited so plan ahead for a ride. Also the hotel is on the airstrip for the airport...it's a bit old and while nice enough...not great. The cost for taking the taxi in and out of town was better spent staying in town in another hotel closer to the train station. The town of Colmar is lovely and like a storybook land. Colmar worth the visit. The hotel personnel were nice, the hotel was clean, bed ok. Once arrived and figured out where it was located we wanted to change but reservations unable to cancel....in the end we could have spent the money on cabs on another room downtown in the city center.

Nightlife tip:
Short drive from hotel
Colmar has no nightlife in the city center. It is quiet, with nice small restaurants and the Christmas Market was open...very nice and decorations were beautiful.
