The location was great for walking everywhere in that area. The staff were very helpful and spoke enough English for us to understand them. While there were no complaints we did see places cheaper near by and as nice as the room was is wasn't worth the price we paid. But if you have lots of money its a great location.

We enjoyed the location as it was right off Colbert and La Canebiere (the main drag in town that leads to the old port). It was an easy walk from the hotel to the port and we caught the bus from there up to Notre Dame de la Garde. We also picked up the boat to Chateau D'If from there. The staff was friendly and it is right next to the shopping mall (literally the two are connected). No pool. But the hotel was under renovations which took away from the ambiance.

The hotel was clean and well located a few blocks from the "Old Port", not far from shopping. The restaurant had limited options for lunch or dinner. Breakfast buffet was good. Front desk personnel were very slow and did not acknowledge arrival at the desk when they were dealing with someone else. Also, they took a very long time to handle prior clients.
they did arrange a cab to the port for us to catch our cruise ship.

The Apartment/hotel had friendly and helpful service. They helped us in locating our luggage (which was lost for 2/3rds of our stay in Marseille. I would recommend this facility but would not recommend anyone to visit Marseille. Very sad because upon visiting Marseille you can tell it was once a beautiful and wonderful place to visit.

We visited several cities in our trip, Milan, Genoa, Nice and Barcelona. This was our first stay at a Sofitel and it turn out to be the best hotel of the trip. It is well located, has excellent facilities, unbeatable views and excellent service. The breakfast buffet was again the best of all. We would definetely considered staying at other Sofitel locations.

Upon check-in the staff was rude. I booked the room with accommodations for 4. There was no problem until I arrived. The staff said I could only have 2 and they would charge $15.00 per person per day. Then, I had to pay for parking since we rented a car to travel from Spain to France. The parking was $35.00 euro ($50.00 give or take USD) for 2 days of parking. In the end we spent an addition $130.00 more than the [...] price we booked for. Oh, and staff was rude! They were not friendly at all and no meals are included.

Very friendly and helpful staff, great location and hotel in general. The breakfast at €25 is a little steep so I opted to leave that off, there are plenty of little bars and restaurants nearby as alternatives. I'd definitely go back.

The HIE is right across the main Train / Coach Station so access could not be better. There is only a short walk to the downtown and port areas.
However, at night, the location is not the best as there are beggars who loiter the streets.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel.

Mais une fois rentré dans l'ordre, le séjour s'est tres bien deroulé
L'hotel est tres bien situé: tout proche de la gare, du metro ET de la canebiere. Le vieux port est rapidement accessible à pied
l'hotel est neuf donc nikel
Dommage qu'il n'y ait pas d'installations supplémentaires comme une salle de gym ou une piscine.
La salle exterieur pour le petit dej' ou pour l'apéritif ne donne pas sur un endroit inoubliable néammoins. C'est dommage.
Bien dans l'ensemble cela dit.

Stayed at a 2-star in Vieux Port earlier in the trip and it was dismal even though it was recommended in several guide books. This hotel had an equally great location (right next to the subway, very close to the bus terminal, very close to shopping and tourist stuff).
Room was clean & neat. The bed was comfortable. Looks like a fairly modern room. Wifi worked well. Staff was helpful providing suggestions.

The hotel is right next to the tourist portion of the harbor. Great location to walk to many sites. The room was very clean and modern. Comfortable beds. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous. Breakfast was good.

This hotel is in a great position, on the outskirts of Marseille but close to the plage and with easy access into the Old Port and the city centre. Well appointed, excellent food in the restaurant, friendly and helpful staff. Not the cheapest available but excellent value for such a good hotel. We had a great 5 night stay.

I stayed at the Novatel Est while I was attending a local veterans celebration. The Hotel was located close to the village of Aubagne near Marseille. It was just off of a major roadway, but quiet, clean, and pleasant. The hotel staff were friendly, polite, and most helpful to the foreign traveler. The food the service, and the room were all excellent. I would certainly stay in this hotel if I return to the area.

L'albergo è centrale,carino. La stanza era caldissima, ben insonorizzata,la luce filtrava sui lati delle tende infastidendo il sonno ma il letto molto buono.
Non c'è parcheggio dell'albergo e in strada è impossibile, ma davanti c'è un parking privato da 14 euro al giorno.

I went from Paris to Avignon to Marseilles then to Cannes. The worst part of the trip was going to Marseilles (which surprised me, really!). Very dumpy and unsafe city, no plans to return. Hotel was ok if you have to go to Marseilles but would strongly suggest visiting another location nearby - like Toulon - which was very nice. I have been to Mexico City on vacation and felt safer. Trust me, check out another place in order to relax and really enjoy your vacation.
Other than that if you must go, I'd rate this hotel at about a 7 out of 10. Not bad, quite clean (new bathrooms, clean sheets/bedding), a/c didn't work but reception offered for us to switch rooms. Reception very helpful.

near the train station, not very nice neighbourhood. Wifi only works at hall. No private parking place, public parking is 50m away from the hotel. Room is clean, big enough, fare facilities.

hotel strongly not recommended .
the 'standard ' of the hotel is very far away of what is expected from the " best western hotel " brand .
poor quality of the equipement ( bed / walls in shaby conditions , wall to wall carpets not clean etc.

il est un peu dur à trouver sur les hauteurs de Marseille mais ils ont faits un truc très bien
je ne connais pas les autres hôtels du groupe Newhotel

In the heart of the city of Marseille, on the Vieux Port (the famous old harbour), the Grand Tonic Hotel Marseille-Vieux Port is a Charming 4 stars Hotel offering 56 all confort Design rooms (Priviledge rooms with view to the sea) ; a bar and a lounge for meetings, bright with day light. The choice of designs in the Tonic Hotel Marseille was made to create a tale. The aim was to express the sea and its "calanques" (local name for creeks) so a delicate play of various tints from clear white to browns, in contrast with the deep blue of a magnificent sea. Booked early so received discount to €80 from €290 on room. Stayed 08Dec for one night. Very basic room but adequate for a night stop (we travelled for a football game). The location is very good - right on Vieux Port. The north east corner of Vieux Port. Good for shopping and restaurants. A taxi rank it on the corner and the metro across the road. Irish bars just along the road for pre-match drinks. A good price for room was obtained (Dec booking - made immediately after dates given for Champions League game - before they had time to load in the football surcharge), but the rack-rate would be far too high.

L'hotel ne présentait pas de photos du lobby et de l'entée. Et pour cause. Hotel propre, silencieux et idéalement placé. Est-ce suffisant pour être classé 4* ? Bof.
