A well-appointed hotel with a very friendly atmosphere. The staff are unobtrusive but always there when you need them. The hotel layout is unique, being built into the face of the Chateau Hill, which means that there are two separate lifts to get to the upper floors. Some reviewers found this odd but it was simply the best way to deal with such a unique construction. It is an oasis of quiet calm but the lively attractions of Nice are right on the doorstep. Definitely one of the better hotels I have stayed in and well worth its 4-star rating. Go and enjoy.

La Perouse has a great location
La Perouse has a great location overlooking the entire Promenade des Anglais and Baie des Anges. Its provencal design oozes character, style and understated elegance. The restaurant food is excellent, but the breakfast lacks variety and imagination. The staff are very polite and helpful at all times.

Excellent hotel, on the seafront
Excellent hotel, on the seafront but without all the noise that some of the other large hotels suffer from. Very helpful and polite staff. However the hotel has no disabled facilities and there are quite a few steps to negotiate.

Excellent Combination
This hotel is perfectly situated if your focus, like ours, was to spend time in the Old Town and flower/vegetable markets. The color and all the restaurants are all within 5 minutes walk. It's also an easy walk to the port, and overlooks one end of Nice's fantastic beach. The service was excellent--I particularly appreciated the thoughtful huddle of three desk clerks when I asked for a recommendation of a restaurant they'd go to themselves. Our room was very comfortable, and overall we thought the hotel was very good value--not cheap, but worth the cost. In fairness, we wouldn't recommend La Perouse for families with smaller children (very limited grounds for play nearby except the beach, which is across the road) or for people with serious leg or knee trouble (the restaurant is only accessible by stairs).

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
We found the restaurants near the flower market naturally very crowded and noisy. Our favorite place was deeper in old town, relaxed dining inside and out, called L'Escalinada.
