Wonderful hotel and neighborhood
Thank you to all the other reviewers who recommended the Saint-Christophe! I knew exactly what to expect and wasn't surprised by anything. The rooms are small but have everything you need and are incredibly clean. The only suggestion I would have is that I think its time to get new mattresses and pillows. Otherwise--wonderful. Our breakfast was included and so we didn't try the local bakeries. We went to Rue Mouffetard and Place de la Contrascarpe every day for dinner or coffee! The Jardin des Plantes is two blocks the other way and the metro station is also around the corner and down a couple of blocks. For a quick meal I would recommend the asian take-out place around the corner on Rue Monge and Il Crete on the square--I know, its not french food but we liked those places for a change. The staff is so helpful and nice and it was great to have free access to a computer. I would definitely stay there again--no hesitation.

Go to as many outdoor markets as you can! They are all a bit different--we loved the one at Place Maubert. The Bastille is huge so be prepared, and the one right by the metro station at Place Monge is also good.

Petit and practical
Very nice, small hotel. It is in a great location, close to several Metro stops and walking distance from Ille de Cite. Be aware though there is no airconditioning. It was 90+ in Paris while I was there and the room was pretty steamy. Ask for a low floor if you go in the summer.

Hotel Saint Christophe
For the price, which in my case included a very nice breakfast in a pleasant downstairs breakfast room, this hotel can't be beat. It's in an area of the 5th arrondisement that's away from the frenetic student area, but it's near the metro and rue Moufettard, a very popular food shopping street, and it's also just steps away from the Jardin des Plantes and the zoo. There are not a lot of fancy restaurants in the area, but there are some very good ethnic places (Vietnamese, Tibetan, e.g.). Also, it's a 5 minute walk from place Contrescarpe, which is a very pleasant square for hanging out and having a drink while watching the folks drift by. I sat and had a glass of wine in one of the outdoor cafes while listening to a 2-person group singing French/English songs that we all know (at least the English ones).

PLeasantly surprised-was expecting
PLeasantly surprised-was expecting a smaller hotel, but our room was ample considering this hotel is in the heart of the charming Latin Quarter district. The staff were friendly and helpful-we will definitely use this hotel again!

Great location
Great location. 5 min taxi from Gare de Lyon and RER Luxembourg. 5 min walk from 100's of medium range restaurants. Walking to Pantheon, long walk to Rodin museum, etc. Room size adequate by Paris standards.

This turned out to be an excellent
This turned out to be an excellent choice, for location, service and hotel amenities. I will try to book again in the future. It is well located in the Latin quarter, close to two metro stations, and within easy walking distance of the centre of Paris, the botanical gardens, and many other Paris attractions. The room was spacious and well-lit (on to a lightwell), and the bathroom was roomy and well appointed. Breakfast is served in an attractive basement breakfast room. All of the staff were courteous and helpful. The only drawback was the absence of a security safe within the room.
