Villa Lutece Port Royal

Decent for the price. Do not expect 4 or 5 star service. Rita and Sultana in the front desk (day receptionist) are very nice but, dont expect "concierge" type service. The night staff will not help. This location is close to the Metro (take the Metro!!!). Also note that, if they call you a taxi there is a 10 euro charge with the taxi. All in all, decent and clean for a weekend stay.

Great

The hotel is not very centric, but a very short walk from 2 metro stations that take you anywhere you want. There is a charge at the end of your stay for taxes so prepare for that. The front desk was nice and spoke english. The rooms were clean. After spending an entire day surrounded by tourists it was nice to go "home" to a quieter place.

Get the Museum pass. The lines at all the attractions were 2-3 hours long and with the pass you could skip them. We saved over $120 with the pass with all the museums we went to.

Cozy and Convenient

This hotel is a great option[...] The rooms may be small, but when you're there to see the city, it doesn't matter if your room is small. We had plenty of space for anything we needed to store or do. To get to the closest metro, turn right out of the front door, go left at the intersection, and then cross the street not even one full block down for the Campo Formio stop on line 5. It doesn't get too much easier for this price. The neighborhood was bright and open, felt very safe. The hotel interior is lovely to look at, which doesn't hurt. The staff was always welcoming and friendly, and appreciated even our poor attempts to speak French. We were able to store our baggage safely on our last day and and pick it up in the evening. Only drawback- it was very warm inside, perhaps the cooling system was broken? Opening the window solved the problem! Highly recommend!!

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

Get the Metro passes for the number of days you will stay in Paris. You can get everywhere you need to go with the timely, well-planned metro. Having this ticket can save you a load of money- and save your feet from exhaustion! If you can't figure out the kiosks in the stations, just get in line as there is nearly always someone working at the window. Also, consider taking the train through the suburbs to Versailles. It's very cheap and the ride is quick. Start at Gare Montparnasse and you won't even have to leave the building to get back to the Metro- unless you want to!

Good location

The hotel location was in a good area. Close to 2 options of Metro, either Campo or Saint Marcel and within walking of Place d'Italia. The staff we found to be unhelpful, not very friendly, if we did ask a question we felt that it we were interupting either their private phonecall or their studying!, there was also no passing on of information to us about the hotel facilities or amenities. We were only on a "room only" basis but in other hotels, the reception staff usually give you the low-down of the hotel, if you wanted to upgrade to say having breakfast, so that was disappointing! Plus when we left beware they hit you with a "City TAX!" - more money!!!! Having said all that the hotel was a good location and easy to find, the room albeit very small had everything we needed in it and was clean and tidy. The maid was about the only member of staff who actually smiled and acknowledged us. Our room was located at the back of the hotel, which made it a bit dark, but it was also very quiet. But when in Paris you really only want to have somewhere nice and clean to stay as you're out touring about the city... There was a lovely restaurant round the corner pizza was gorgeous. Metro system is great but to avoid expense and trust me Paris is VERY expensive, make sure you buy a Metro pass to cover your whole stay. And if you plan to go to Euro disney make sure your metro includes that zone! We did the open tour, hop-on-hop-off bus, the red one, but on reflection we should have gone on the green one as it did a tour of different areas in Paris, but the red bus was still fine for our needs and had a good audio as you travelled round the city. The Sacre Coer and Notre Dame are a must see for the stunning architecture and if you go you might be lucky to see a service, either the nuns singing or the choir, these are the only 2 places we visited that were FREE! Going up the Eiffel Tower was a disappointment as they are re-furbishing a lot of it and the queues to go up were not very clear, you either have to walk up the stairs - gets a bit dizzy or join the enormous q for the lift! However the view is worth the effort. Going up the Champs Elysee was lovely and there is loads of cafe's and shops dotted all up the avenue. It was raining the morning we went so it was handy to go in and out the various shopping malls, even if it was to look.. I will return to Paris one day, perhaps when it is not so expensive!

Metro is definatley the way to travel around the city and their system is very easy to follow.. (far better than London), their signs are all easy to follow. And if its raining, which it does from time to time, you can still move about without getting too wet!

Charming hotel

The Villa Lutece is a chrming, boutique style hotel in a residential area of Paris. The staff is very nice and courteous. I found the room rather small but average for Paris stadards. It was very nicely and originally decorated. The only drawback was the lack of wifi in the rooms, you need to go down to the (very nice) lobby to use the internet.

Great Hotel....great location!!!

We read reviews about this hotel before booking it. Are the rooms small? Yes by American standards, if you don't like that don't go to Europe, PERIOD!!!! It is a typical sized room for a European city. Another couple people mentioned no Metro stop near by...are you kidding? It's right around the corner(Campo Formio), literally!!!! Along with a great Pastry/bakery and then a great Italian restaurant too! Decorated beautifully!!!! English speaking staff were more than accommadating! Stay here you won't regret it!
