Great hotel
My young son and I stayed here for a weekend trip to the Cologne Xmas markets. I was really impressed with the hotel. Great location and the room was really nice. I am fastidious on cleanliness in a room and this room did not disappoint. Really nice decor, lovely bathroom. Would definitely stay there again. Very easy to get there from the airport and short walking distance to the markets.

Location is great a short walk
Location is great a short walk from the railway station. Our room was at the front of the building, and very noisy with tram and train noise. When the windows were closed to shut out noise, the room was quite hot. Wonderful breakfast, lots of choice.

The hotel is located beside a church that tolls its bells early in the morning. To ensure a good night's sleep, make sure you don't get a room facing the church. Apart from that, the location of the hotel is very good. The room I was given was very cold, the heating did not appear to be on, despite the fact that the outside temperature was just above freezing level.

the ratchet that holds the shower
the ratchet that holds the shower head was very loose, so had to hold the shower. Considering the star rating of this hotel it did not have any tea or coffee making facilities. Room service did not serve just drinks.

Rooms smell terrible.
The room smelled so bad (very must, like a filthy, rotting carpet) that it totall detracted from everything else. I would never stay there again and would not recommend the hotel.

Overall good value
The Mecure Koeln was overall a good value. The room was modern, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was good and reasonably priced at 15 euro. The construction outside the hotel and the location detracted a bit from the overall experience. A new subway or street renovation was just outside our window and was very loud. The hotel is probably a half a mile from the nicer part of town/shopping district and we wound up taking cabs because we couldn't quite navigate the confusing streets.

Fair price with decent room and
Fair price with decent room and location. My room at 5th floor even have a great balcony. Small bathroom and over-priced breakfast is a minus.
