Goldener Hecht is a small family hotel. You will soon grow fond of the view from your room of the Old Bridge as the great Romantic poets once did. You will find yesterdays atmosphere combined with the comfort of today. This traditional hotel is managed by the Rothe family in the 3rd generation. The proprietress Eva Rothe has had the house with 13 rooms renovated and carefully modernized. All rooms are complete with mini bar; radio; direct dial phone and wireless internet access. By the way Goethe asked for lodging at the Goldener Hecht. His luck was not so good all rooms were occupied. Nowadays the poet would make sure he had a reservation. Additional information; Children age 3 and under stay free in the room. Children over this age will be considered an adult. Children who do not require an extra bed stay free in the room. The hotel reserve the right without prior notification to cancel any reservation with an invalid or incomplete credit card number.

Smallest room ever...

In a lovely central location, the hotel entrance is hidden, the stairs steep and difficult to handle with luggage (no help there) and the restaurant outside means you should not expect to go to bed before 11 pm at night. I was able to everywhere in my room with my headset on my head attached to the computer - I think the map said the room was 8 m2. The room was clean, the breakfast good, but no AC.

Best Price and Location!!

Overall this hotel was perfect for those wanting to be in the best location in the city and not pay top dollar for a bigger room that you wont be in!! The location is 20ft. from the famous bridge and the room we had #31 over looked the bridge!! this view we had was better than most any other hotels in the city. You walk out of the room and your right in the heart of the old town, next to the bridge, close walk to the castle and close walk. This hotel is one of those cute places that you see when your on vacation and say" I wish we knew of this place we would have stayed here!!" the only long walk is from the train main station hbf to the hotel and thats maybe 2 miles? but once you get there you dont really need to go to far from what you want to see in heidleberg. 15 dollar cab ride. The hotel front desk is open from 7am to 10pm and they where very helpful. The bed was very comfortable, not a spring mattress like you get in some hotles in europe!! I will stay here if we come back for sure!!!

Great Place to Stay!

As a past resident of Heidelberg, I can tell you that the Goldener Hecht is in about as great a location as you're going to find. It's literally right in front of the Old Bridge, and it's in the heart of the town, where you'll find fantastic restaurants and shops. Not only is the hotel and it's staff great, but, in my opinion, the restaurant below the hotel has some of the best food in town. Breakfast is served upstairs in a pretty small room, but it's decent enough. The staff are very friendly, and everyone spoke fluent English. If you're looking for peace and quiet during the days, this hotel may not be for you, as it is surrounded by bars, shops, and restaurants filled with tourists, students, and locals. The noise will usually persist until around midnight, but if you're likely to be one of those people out that late at night, this place is perfect for you. The hotel is also very convenient to the castle, if you wish to check that out, as well. If you've never been to Heidelberg and you're traveling without children, I would definitely recommend this hotel for you.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

You have an endless number of shops, restaurants, and bars in the immediate area. The castle is a short, but steep, walk from the hotel. The surrounding area is packed on the weekends, and at night, the bars are full of German college students. English is a pretty common language in Heidelberg, which makes it even more comfortable for tourists. There is, literally, something for everyone here.
