For the price, can't do much better in Heraklion. The room was clean and nice, and our stay included breakfast which was quite good. The service was friendly and responsive. The only down side was that the hotel location - the surrounding neighborhood is not at all exciting and the hotel is located just outside the city walls which is not very convenient if you're in Crete to sightsee, but it is on the way to the Palace of Knossos.

This hotel is a very pleasant place to stay. The rooms were quite spacious and very comfortable with all the mod cons including computer access. The breakfast was very generous and all the staff very helpful. The restaurant was also good. It is a 15 minute walk down to the centre of town which was a slight inconvenience.

Matala Dimitris Villa Hotel has 15 A' class rooms, all of them with their own bathroom, balcony, Air-Condition, Heating, fridge, Satellite TV, swimming-pool for adults and pool for children, safe-box and phone.
In the tavern, near the pool and surrounded by flowers, one can enjoy the breakfast or a delicious traditional Cretan lunch. One might like to know that we also provide the meat for the snacks (local production).
There are two swimming pools with sweet water, one for adults and one for children, and a big terrace with sun chairs and umbrellas free of charge for the guests. Matala beach is just 200 m away, and the place is surrounded by trees and greenery, making it an ideal place for a relaxing vacation. Also, hotel offers Internet access for reading and sending e-mails for all who are interested. There is also the possibility to organize excursions all over the island with air-conditioned busses or even by renting a car or bike at the best prices. Hospitality in Greek language treasures as one of the most precious values and inheritance got from the ancient Greek roots and the Cretan culture.

Sowohl die Anlage, als auch der Service können sich wahrhaftig sehen lassen. Die Menschen sind herzlich, hilfsbereit und freundlich, die Zimmer sauber und sehr gemütlich, der Pool ein Hit. Auch das Ambiente lädt zum Verweilen ein und man freut sich, gemütlich das griechische Flair zu geniesen.
Frühstücksbüffet ist reichlich, jedoch vielleicht ein wenig phantasielos.
Man kann nur empfehlen, dieses Hotel zu besuchen.

Un accueil chaleureux et convivial, une situation en retrait (400 m) de l'activité touristique, un petit déjeuner simple, un confort suffisant pour un court séjour.
Description
Kyknos is a 4-star Holiday Resort, situated 32kms east of the airport of Heraklion between Malia and Stalida, a resort that attracts thousands of visitors every summer.The hotel consists of a main building and 6 bungalow buildings spread in the rich gardens and has altogether 134 rooms. The main building features a warm reception area, an elegant lobby, a dining room with the veranda overlooking the pool and the main bar.

Don't be fooled by the "4-star Resort"!

Pros:
Close to the beach and bars.
Nice grounds with trees and bar next to the pool.
Free WIFI in lobby area.
Remote controlled AC.
Cons:
-Not a resort at all. Just cause they have pool doesn't make them a resort. Motel 8 doesn't call themselves a resort!
-Not so private pool located in front of the restaurant which always has people sitting outside, so you can't just relax without hearing noise or smelling cigarettes.
-Horrible service, short tempered male receptionist required that I pay cash for the additional person.
-Sewer smell like bathroom which we were unable to air out no matter how long we had the window open.
-The man that helped with our bag ripped my handle since he didn't care to take both handles.
-Staff and other European guests smoked a lot so you cannot escape it.
-We had a horrible view of the freeway and an abandoned building.
-The TV was about 12" big and broken.
-Refrigerator was locked unless you pay 10 Eur / day.
-Not a real double bed since they just combine 2 twin beds together. My husband and I had separate twin blankets.
Overall, they say that they are a 4 star hotel, but beware since that is in Greek standards not US. We asked the receptionist what makes them a 4-star, and they said that it is in Crete standards where they get a star for their amenities. Meaning a 12" non working TV counts as 1. A pool is another. Then a disability ramp counts as another and so on... In US I would rate this place a 2-star hotel tops just like a Motel 8! Don't waste your money here.

Where to start? First, this hotel is in the middle of nowhere, and hard to get to. And that's as far as I can go to say anything negative about this place. BUT, they'll pick you up anywhere, any time, even if you have a car, and once you get there, the views and the service make it all worthwhile. Also, with a rental, you can get just about anywhere easily once you get your bearings.Now, all the goodies: [...] (the owner, along with her husband), and all the rest of the small but wonderful staff, will make your stay a romantic, memorable event. The rooms are enormous and a bit overdecorated, but that's part of the charm. You will feel expansive and wrapped in luxury here, with all the extras, like a plate of freshly cut melon when you arrive, candies, chocolates and pastries in the room, and such. Breakfast is delicious and abundant, again with lots of personal details.We had an early departure, so they set up a special breakfast the night before on our own dining table and refrigerator in our room, an indescribably classy touch!The views are just about the best we saw anywhere on the island. You're high up in the rolling hills of Crete.On the day we left, our rental car died. In a blink, [...]'s husband (I forgot his name, sorry!) dropped everything to help us. He rushed to the nearby town to get jumper cables, then when that didn't work, he gave us a ride to the port in time to catch our ship. I just dropped the car keys with him and he took care of the broken down rental. All of this with a smile and class you just can't get anymore!The young manager was also extremely helpful, and we sat down with him for recommendations on where to go and what to do considering our stay there. Great guy! And of course, [...], the dalmatian, was as friendly and loving as everyone else there... Thanks to all for a wonderful experience!

A Rare Jewel on Crete

We stayed for 1 month on business. We needed to stay somewhere close to the City of Malia. I chose the Amazones because of the great reviews and they were all correct. Especially note worthy was the winter Care Taker Caroline. She went out of her way to make sure our stay was comfortable. She entertained us with movie night, sight seeing recommendations, and billards. Caroline even accomidated our special request for early breakfast. Because of the great experience, I will be bringing my family back for summer vacation.

We spent 4 weeks at the Amazones Suites for business. We found it to be a beautiful location which overlooks the sea from the mountain side. We had a very memorable room which overlooked the pool and a great view of the town below. Most note worthy was the hospitality of Caroline who was the winter care taker. She went out of her way to make sure our stay was comfortable. She consulted us with sight seeing of Knossos, The Pallace of Malia, and the Village of Lota on the east coast - all worth seeing. Miss Caroline filled our extra time with movie night, billards, and information on local eateries and sights.

There are 2 Castro Hotels in Heraklion, went to the other one first so was expecting a more central location. Room was very small, shower so small hard to move w/o hitting fixtures, but all very clean. Some staff overly-attentive in a smarmy way, restaurant was very noisy until late at night and noise heard easily in room. Nice pool area. On main road, about 1 km from beach.

Très bon rapport qualité prix.
Hôtel de qualité, personnel serviable et souriant.
Les parties communes sont magnifiques, la piscine à débordement est elle aussi très belle.
Nous avions réservé un appartement côté montagne, ce qui s'est avéré être un bon plan, car les logements côté mer donnent sur les terasses du restaurant et du bar, mais surtour sur la route qui passe aux pieds de l'hôtel et qui est très fréquentée.
L'accès à la plage peu se faire par un passage sous voies, ce qui évite de traverser la route. C'est plutôt partique, surtout une fois que vous aurez vu comment et à quelle vitesse circulent les grecs.
La location d'une voiture est indispensable si vous ne souhaiter pas passer tout votre séjour à l'hôtel.
Seul bémol, il faut compter plus d'une heure et demis de route pour relier Héraklion à Stalos.
Pour le reste, des commerces et restaurants sont proches et les gens sont plutôt sympa.
Evitez toutefois les restaurants en bord de mer, ils sont en principe chers et la qualité n'est souvent pas au rendez-vous.

Aquarius hotel lies on the picturesque harbor of Ag. Pelagia in the center of the northern coast of Crete, only 18 klm. far from the capital of the island, Heraklion. This ideal family resort is made out of local wood, marble and stone. It is a family run, traditionally styled hotel featuring 14 four star, furnished apartments and studios surrounding the pool. All rooms, 9 apts and 5 stds are spacious, fully equipped, each one providing bathroom, kitchenette, dinning room area , living room area, separate bedroom depending the room type, air conditioning, TV, phone, personal safety deposit box, balcony or terrace. Aquarius provides a 100 sq.m. welcome lounge with central television, snack bar and a veranda cafe overlooking the pool where breakfast is served on request. The swimming pool is adopted to different water levels for the children and it is surrounded by the garden. The hotel is located 300 m. far from the beach and the center of the village. The 5 studios of the hotel accommodate 1-2 people while some of them accommodate 3. They are 40sq.m. each and offer kitchenette, dinning room area , living room area , 2-3 single beds in the living room area, bathroom, balcony or terrace. The 9 apts accommodate 1-4 people,3 adults and one child up to 14 years of age. They are 47 sq.m. each, featuring kitchenette, dinning room area , living room area, separate bedroom with 1-2 single beds or a king size one, bathroom, balcony or terrace. The third and forth guest are accommodated in the living room area. Baby cotts are provided for those families with babies. Agia Pelagia is one of the most well known bays in Crete.Late arrivals are welcome after informing the hotel.

Situation glauque, plage riquiqui, l'hôtel est difficile à trouver, indigne d'un 4*. La chambre est grande, mais sombre et froide, douche et sanitaires sont vieux et déglingués. Les propriétaires sont plutôt sympas mais cela n'arrange guère la qualité générale. En plus en fin de séjour, le paiement n'a pas été comptabilisé et j'ai commis l'erreur de payer à nouveau, n'ayant pas la facture imprimée sur moi, ni le décompte de ma carte de crédit.... Il m'a fallu 4 mois pour obtenir le remboursement de la part de l'hôtel, perte de 80 Frs suite à la baisse de l'€uro. En bref une expérience catastrophique, sans compter le traitement réservé aux chiens sur cette île !! C'est une honte et nous n'y remettrons pas les pieds. Voyageurs, touristes, passez votre chemin, loin de cette île en général et de cet hôtel en particulier.

Description
This is an excellent seafront family resort, with a wide range of services and in close proximity to the city of Heraklion and the airport (12/10 EP) It is a purpose built seafront complex set amidst lush gardens and boasting 2 swimming pools. The hotel is at the beach of Amoudara, in a distance of 7 km from Heraklion and 12 km from the international Airport. It is 10 minutes away from the center of Heraklion by public transport and at the same time on the wonderful sandy beach of Amoudara, surrounded by beautiful blossom gardens that offer a relaxing walking space.

Description
This is undoubtedly one of the best hotels in the city. It offers a friendly, professional service and a very good standard of accommodation. The hotel also boasts a fantastic rooftop pool and snack bar. (EP08/07) Since its complete renovation in 2001, the hotel now has a modern glass façade. The blue glass balconies give the hotel a very cosmopolitan look. Situated in a prime spot on Platia Eleftherias, on the edge of the main shopping district. The hotel is within easy reach of all the bars and restaurants and just a short walk from the port.

Description
This is a top quality hotel in Heraklion, it benefits from good quality rooms and central location. Recommended. (03/09 EP) It is a fresh cream painted building, with marble and wrought iron balconies very characteristic of Greek modern architecture. Located at the center of the city, near the Lions' Square, the port and all the places of interest.

Description
This fantastic hotel has everything : High quality rooms and services, a long sandy beach directly in front of it, close proximity to Heraklion city. An excellent choice for a the perfect holiday (12/09 EP) It is a 3 storey ochre coloured building directly on the seafront. Mareblue Neptuno Beach is an amazing waterfront hotel located in Ammoudara, the suburbs of Heraklion and about 6km from the center of the city.

This is an excellent seafront deluxe option in Heraklion. The beach is just a hop away from the rooms, the services and facilities are top notch and the standard of the rooms is exquisite. The proximity of the great city of Heraklion means that guests can enjoy the best of both worlds, a relaxing luxurious seafront holiday and the great clubbing, sightseeing and shopping options of Heraklion (12/09 EP) It is a brown coloured building, with a sizeable parking area and tennis courts and other outdoor facilities in its grounds.
