Satisfactory but with handicaps

City and peope are good, Its worth being there. The huge construction (underground station) in front of the hotel is still continuing and no one knows when it may be completed. Although the facilities barely matches 5 star rating, the location is somewhat outside of the City's better looked after center. It is dusty and noisy outside. It had been reported that most of the hotel was renovated but that was 7 years ago and for a 5 star, it is needed again. The staff is friendly and helpful, given the conditions, offering their best.

Short stay

The hotel is not situated in the garden spot of the city but is a short walk from the port and seafront and from nicer shopping and dining areas further to the south and east. The hotel is clean and the staff are courteous. Optional breakfasts and internet connections are expensive relative to the price of the hotel, and can easily ruin an otherwise good bargain. The room and bathroom were modern and adequate. There are not many TV channels, but who comes to Greece to watch TV?

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Walk down to the seafront and stroll along it and the streets a couple of blocks back from it. You will find many nice foreign restaurants and classical Greek Tavernas.

A fine choice . . . in a fabulous city!

Everything was excellent. Pianists were excellent and added a lot to the ambiance in the lobby. Would have appreciated the inclusion of a simple continental breakfast and free local calls.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Enjoy the Agora! Be sure to get closer to the water to the superior shopping areas. And, do not miss visiting the ancient Orthodox Churches and St. Paul's sites from where he preached to the Thessalonians. Stop and wander along the areas where the subway is being built to see the ruins and artifacts being uncovered.

very nice hotel

The nicest, most comfortable hotel we have stayed in in Greece. The staff answered our many questions and helped us solve some travel problems. They spoke fluent English. Lobby, elevators and rooms were modern and everything functioned well.

A nice stay, BUT!!!

My only real problem with this hotel is that there was/is major construction going on right in front of the hotel. When arriving or leaving the hotel, you have to go through the basement, up the ramp, and out the back door. The entire street is torn out in front of the hotel, its an ugly sight. Also, there's a lot of street noise because of the traffic congestion. The hotel is clean, nice, and staff was friendly.
