We used the Kowloon Shangri-La

We used the Kowloon Shangri-La Hong Kong as a stop over hotel between London-Sydney. The service was first class. The staff throughout the whole hotel and greeting staff at the airport made us very welcome and were great with our 3yr old child. We were in the executive rooms, which had been recently refurbished. Access to the horizon club was also nice for breakfast and evening drinks. Next time we are in Hong Kong we will be staying here again.

Shangri-La Kawloon - Hong Kong business

I did not have a good experience from the start, the Hotel did take my credit card an block a large amount after explisitly instructions not to block only inprint my card. The bed was worn out, the pillows was worn out and the food was below standards for a 5 star hotel. They have plenty of staff opening doors and welcoming you in, but no service beyond that. The last day the hall was so overpowered by paint or cleaning fumes it was unbearable.

Fantastic view and service to match

For this our first visit to Hong Kong we booked a room with a harbour view and were delighted to discover that we had been upgraded to a newly renovated Horizon Club room. The view from our 19th floor room was amazing from early in the morning to late at night when we had our own personal ringside seat on the light show playing on the island's skyscrapers as well as of the boats twinking on the harbour. But the service matched the view. We loved everything about the hotel room - it had every amenity you could think of including a printer, stapler, paper clips, ipod dock... you name it and the spacious bathroomwas was beautifuly equipped. Every single member of staff we met was warm and friendly from the concierge to the front desk staff, the chatty waiters and the young woman who rushed to the room to sort out free internet access for my laptop. Hong Kong is an amazing destination - a heady mix of frenetic activity, vibrant street life, crowded rush hour trains, gleaming modern shopping malls and tall, tall buildings. Yet it's relatively easy to get away from it all and a morning trip up on the Peak Tram can soon get you lost on a bush walk while the Avenue of the Stars in Kowloon can be a quiet and pleasant walk early in the morning. Three days wasn't enough to do it justice but highlights apart from the above included a trip up the longest escalator in the world and a rapid descent from mid-levels on a local bus, Temple St. Night Market and of course riding the Star Ferry at night from Kowloon to the city and trundling along in double decker trams. For the price of HKD 150 for an Octopus card (about 16 euro) I did all the travel I could fit in on trains, trams and ferries and still had about HKD 40 credit left after 3 days. Taxis are also very cheap but public transport is great fun and a great way to connect with local people who are helpful with directions and advice.[...]

Very slow check in process due

Very slow check in process due to the rooms being cleaned. Unable to check in until 6.00pm. Also, please note that a 'harbour view' room does also include having 10 lanes of traffic outside your window, so if noise is a problem, I'd suggest a different room!

Very welcoming

I wish I could give half-star grades, because the Shangri La was almost perfect, but not quite. The welcome was fantastic; we were picked up at the airport and whisked to the hotel, where we were allowed into our rooms well before standard check-in time. This was very appreciated after an overnight flight from Melbourne. The lady who greeted us, Eri, was a delight. She made us feel very special and very welcome. Perhaps the let down was in the Club Lounge, where we were perhaps rather made to feel less welcome. Compared with other hotel lounges, the snacks appeared to be limited in quantity and carefully monitored. I also had a massage in the Fitness centre, but felt the service there was somewhat perfunctory and it left me feeling stiff and sore, which was not the point of the exercise. Finally, we were under the impression that we would have packed breakfasts ready for the day of our departure, as we were leaving very early. Unfortunately, this was not the case, which left us scrabbling around trying to get something sorted out. However, ultimately these were minor quibbles. The hotel and staff are really generally top class and I would certainly be very happy to return there one day in the future.
