Basic Hotel in Poor location
Hotel's location was poor apart from being near tram stop. Area was quite dirty and noisy. Hotel was fairly basic; rooms small, breakfast monotonous, staff friendly on the whole but some staff had little knowledge. No upgrades too larger rooms as there weren't any despite advertising there were.

Get pass for public transport - lots of it; buses, trams, metro - they take you all over the city and are fairly quick and good value.

The staff was very helpful with
The staff was very helpful with the small problems I had: no ink the printer in the free computer corner and no current in the shaver plug in the bathroom. Everything was fixed swiftly and with a smile. The room, bathroom and bed was fine. I had a quit room facing the courtyard, a room at the river- (and road-) side of the hotel might be a bit noisy. The breakfast was not one of the best I have had, probably due to the fact that the hotel does not run an ordinary restaurant.

While not in the downtown area, it's next door to a tram/bus stop and very convenient. Facilities are OK, but the rooms are fully air-conditioned - not always true for some other 4-star hotels in Budapest. The pricing is excellent. The staff speaks perfect English and is very helpful.

A fine place
We spent 4 nights at the Mercure Duna. The location was fine - especially once we figured out how to take the 4/6 tram which stops just outside the hotel. The rooms were perhaps a bit small, but really, it was totally fine for 2 adults travelling with big bags. I appreciated that the room had a safe and that there was an ice machine on the first floor. The breakfast was overpriced (13E) and so was internet (10E) but I was able to pick up wireless from the surroundings. Also, upon checkout we were nearly overcharged $45USD for breakfasts that we did not eat so I'm glad I double checked the bill...

Short walk from hotel
Take the 4/6 tram either to the closest metro (Ferenc Korut) or to Oktogon, which is on the corner of Andrassy ut.

Mercure Budapest Duna
We had booked 2 triple rooms. We were supposed to have been 4 adults and two childern. However 2 of the adults could not travel and I can only say "Thank God" because the rooms were so tiny that 2 people, adults or otherwise, with one suitcase could barely fit into one of them. We had to store one of our carry on suitcases in the bathroom. I shudder to think what would have happened if our travelling partners were also there. And no one even made the slightest effort to correct it. It is grossssly unfair/dishonest to advertise/sell a room as triple and then present a room that is a fair double room only for midgets travelling without luggage. And this was the so called standard room. Standard broom closet would have been more appropriate. I understood later, why the check in staff were so desperate to sell a top floor room for 20 euros more!!! The breakfast was OK but so unplentiful that never once did I see that all the breakfast dishes were full. Inevitably, one or more dishes were empty most of the time leading to waits and when the refills came they were so mean that before one went back, the dishes were empty again!. I would never stay there again if ever I went to Budapest. BTW do not be fooled by the offer of their river view room... It can only be a sideways view of the bridge on the river when you crane your neck at an unphysiologic angle.

TOO ARTIFICAL HOTEL
This hotel is the typical artificial hotel member of an international French chai, nothing special, no extra free services.
