Open, spacious, pleasant staff

We used this as a "chill out" after a tiring "golden triangle" trip to Delhi, Jaipur, Agra & Varanasi and we found the hotel was a good place to relax. Unfortunately, we had to travel in May and the heat and humidity were a problem but that is not the hotel's fault! Air-con in the room was excellent. A good choice of food in the restaurant. Staff very helpful and courteous. Overall a good stay.

Pricey But Gorgeous, Historical, Delish!

This place is gorgeous. It's behind a gate, so if you go, you'll be spending most of your time at the resort, or on the sightseeing excursions they offer (there's also a shuttle to the nearby Taj Holiday Village, which has golf and other amenities you are free to use, as the two hotels are run by the same company -- I thought the Taj Holiday Village was more for people with kids, and Fort Aguada was much more beautiful and adult). Fort Aguada (google it!) is built near a giant Portuguese stone fortress that you can walk and climb on. The cottage rooms are exquisite, and have hammocks out front (literally strung between palm trees!) I really loved the combination of historical features with a beautiful modern resort. The place has three restaurants, all of which were pretty incredible, although pricey (I'm a New Yorker, and I kept converting the currency in my head and thinking, "Wow, those are New York prices, almost!") The lentil and crab soup, with buttered naan, at the seafood restaurant was one of the best things I've eaten in my life. Even a simple Goan vegetable curry with peas and mushrooms at Latitudes, the multi-cuisine restaurant, was amazing. The breakfast buffet includes dosa, iddly, and all kinds of interesting new things, although with Western standards. I did have a bit of trouble with my coffee habit (they're not really experts with cappuccino) and my alcohol preferences (specify that you want *European* wine, trust me), but who needs to be highly caffeinated in a tropical paradise? I was skeptical of the Italian place (good Italian in an Indian hotel?), but that, too, was well up to my NYC standards (I had the seafood soup and the pasta carbonara). The spa was very peaceful and in a beautiful Zen-like garden area. The pool overlooks the ocean and the fort, and a beach house/bar right next to the pool was very enjoyable. Most of the people there were Indian couples, many with kids, but the place didn't feel overrun by kids at all -- I found it adult, peaceful, and elegant. Enjoy!

This resort was everything we wished for. It was the best vacation we've ever had, in fact.
First, the setting is ideal - it's only a 20 min drive from the airport. You're a 2 min walk from the beach. And, the pool is gorgeous.
Second, my husband and I were shocked at the level of service we received during our stay. The staff really made it a point to go above and beyond to make our stay a memorable one. Every encounter with staff was pleasant - everyone ALWAYS had a smile on their face, and I never saw any staff member being rude or negative. Most of the staff are college kids earning their degree in hotel management - they are doing on the job training with Hyatt. Hyatt only takes the top students from the universities, so the staff are the cream of the crop. It really showed. We never wanted for anything.
There were several things we thought needed some improvement:
1. The concierge - we didn't feel that the concierge was very helpful. I don't think Hyatt has a professionally trained concierge on staff...it looked like the hotel management students were doing this job. They hand you a map and circle the touristy sites that people typically see.
2. The nightlife - we felt the nightlife was really lacking at this resort. The happy hour was quite limited, and the entertainment was BAD. They hired a guy to play live music....he sounded like awful 80s karaoke. If you want good nightlife, you'll need to take a 45 min cab ride north, to the Baga beach area.

People are quite friendly, a little bit of hindi will help to converse with the workers quite well. Reception are a little bit abrupt and incompetent. The facilities are average, but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. Just a little bit off the beaten track, if it was a little cheaper, I would say it was a great stay!

The rooms in hotel were not up to a three star rated hotel - that's what the hotel website claims - rooms needed a complete facelift! There were several minor irritants - poorly lit bathroom, no soap holder near the bathroom sink, inadequate hot water and dismal water flow, just to name a few. The employees were most helpful and pleasant.

Enjoyable Goa Getaway

I spent a weekend at Taj holiday village this December 2011. The resort sits on a huge beautiful property with several private cottages. For the most part, I enjoyed the hotel but there were a few features that made it less then 4 stars in my eyes (compared to US hotel standards)...
-The buildings seem old and although clean and well kept, the place could use renovating. The rooms are very standard.
-The beach in front of the hotel has been destroyed by monsoons... You have to walk down on the beach a ways to find a good spot to spend the day.
-The restaurants and bars close early. Not much to do right on the resort at night.
-I tried the room service once and wasn't impressed with the quality. Mediocre at best.
Still a good place to go with children and families and a quick ride to Baga and other Goa activities. I would recommend the hotel to others with the criticisms above. It was my first time in Goa and I'm inexperienced with India travel so I really don't have much to compare it to in the area.

Taj service surprisingly underwhelming

I only had 48 hours in Goa. I had called ahead to confirm that I could have early check in because my flight was slated to arrive early morning. I even offered to buy an extra night earlier to ensure that I would have a room upon arrival, but they insisted that would not be necessary. When I arrived they had no room, no apology, no recognition that this is unacceptable, and they sent me to their buffet to spend 1300 rupee on a breakfast I really didn't want so that I could kill some time while they tried to dig up a room. After burning 90 minutes of my limited time in Goa I was informed that I wouldn't have my room for another 5 hours, and that they hope I have a novel to read!! If I wanted to read a novel I certainly could have done it at less than U$S260/night!
At least they have consistency going for them at the Taj Holiday Village; the "service" followed the exact same pattern of deficiency throughout the whole stay. Not even a "thank you" after handing them $900 total for my 2 days there.
Just to take a fair sample (and out of sheer curiosity) I went to the restaurant at the Mumbai location and received the same brand of poor service.
To be completely fair though, the food was good and ambience in both places was decent.

The Lemon Tree Hotel Amarante Beach Resort is located 250 meters from Candolim beach in North Goa. It is in close proximity to an array of shacks, souvenir and curio shops in the area. Panjim is at 13 kms, Thivim railway station is at 30 kms and the airport is approximately 41 km away.
The Lemon Tree Hotel Amarante Beach Resort is spread across two acres in the heart of North Goa. Operational since December 2006, the theme of the entire hotel reflects the grandeur of once upon a time Portuguese Goa as evident from the various medieval motifs that dot the hotel.
On entering the hotel, you are welcomed by a mosaic tiled fountain with a grandiose wooden beamed porch with hanging lights in the backdrop where the stained glass windows of the lobby area can also be seen. The open lobby and reception area boasts of a high domed ceiling with wooden beams and a wrought iron chandelier in the center. The interior includes tall terracotta planters, plenty of seating alcoves with period furniture and swords and shields with a coat of arms design on the walls. Stained glass windows envelope this large space while hand painted tiles, lampshades and the other accessories reflect past Portuguese glory.

The Lemon Tree Hotel Amarante Beach Resort has 65 air-conditioned rooms of which there are 11 Garden rooms, 33 Pavilion rooms, 14 Plaza rooms and one Terrace Studio room, besides a Heritage block that has 2 Heritage rooms, 3 Heritage Studio rooms and one Heritage Suite. Of the 65 rooms, four are exclusive non-smoking rooms and one room is designed to accommodate the needs of physically challenged individuals.
The interiors of all the rooms are similar with the coat of arms theme and are furnished with double or twin beds, a large wardrobe, a study table and a seating area. All rooms have a workstation with ergonomic chair, study table, Wi-Fi / broadband internet access, international direct dial telephone, satellite television, DVD players (on request), refrigerator, tea/coffee maker with complimentary amenities, mini bar, complimentary mineral water, daily newspaper, magnifying mirror, hair dryer, wardrobe, 8-inch thick mattress, plush bath linen and premium quality bed linen. Besides contemporary bathroom toiletries, the attached washrooms have 24 hours hot and cold water facility. Room service is provided for 24 hours to guests.
Dining
Dining outlets at Lemon Tree Hotel Amarante Beach Resort include Citrus Cafe, the poolside malt- cuisine coffee shop, and Republic of Noodles, Pan-Asian cuisine restaurant. The pool has an attached swim up bar, Mango Bar, which serves snacks and beverages as well.
Hotel Facilities
The hotel has a fully equipped meeting room, Tangerine that can accommodate up to 40 people in theatre style along with a business centre with internet connectivity, a fax machine, photocopier and printer. LCD projectors and other conferencing equipment is also available here.
Recreation options include a fitness centre, spa and a mango-shaped swimming pool surrounded by deck chairs, a pool table in the coffee shop and an activity centre for children with tiled chess and ludo boards on the floor. Swimming pool timing for the summer months is 7:30 am to 8 pm while during winter guests enjoy access to the pool from 9 am to 8 pm. Other hotel services include a travel desk, doctor on call, laundry service, lawns / gardens, professional security, car parking facility, airport / railway station transfers, DVD library and Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the property.

Quiet refuge from the touristy clamour

The hotel is inspired by Goa's Portuguese heritage. The interior courtyard around the swimming pool is immaculately landscaped with tropical trees and follage which provide refreshing refuges of shade from the tropical sun. The staff is gracious and friendly and very helpful. A full complimentary breakfast comes with the room rate. The breakfast features native Indian dishes as well as Eurpopean fare. There are two resturants on site the casual " Citrus" near the pool and a more formal pan asian cusine resturant near the lobby. The resturants are good and are reasonably priced. The Citrus offers Goan seafood specialiteis. It is about a 200 m walk from the hotel to Candalim beach which is a beautiful natural golden sand beach. Probably the only negative is the profusion of unsightly beach shacks and the encroughment of the thousands of beach beds. The hotel is located in a very touristy, conjested and noisy area but the inner courtyard provides a welcome refuge from chaos outside. The hotel is on Candolim beach in North Goa. Most of the tourist attractions are in South Goa. There is frequency bus service between the hotel area and Panjii, the capital in South Goa for about 40 cents US. Of course there is also Taxi service.

A Good Place to Land

The Lemon Tree was a comfortable Oasis at which to land after a long day of travel. The staff was courteous, the rooms very nice and livable and the food selection great. Plus it was exceedingly close the the beach. The pool area was lovely but we didn't spend too much time there. A good place to start a trip in Goa and familiarize oneself with the area

The O Hotel in Goa is brand new - first season - but still it delivers all what you would expect from a top boutique hotel. It would deserve a five star rating but since few of the aminities are being completed (like the beach facilities) I reserve the 5th star until it is fully operational. The Hotel is elegant - in the pure Buddha Bar or Cafe Del Mar style.
The most remarquable features are the friendly helpful staff and the great chef that makes the Kitsch (the retaurant) the best eating place in Candolim. The New Year's Eve party was a memorable event in the pure Goan style - by the beach and under the stars with a DJ and a lot of fireworks.
We truly enjoyed our stay at the O Hotel.

What a lovely, friendly and inviting place to stay. The staff (and I mean all of them) cannot do enough to help and for you to enjoy your stay. The food is marvelous, rooms are cleaned daily and refreshments are replenished. Pool and surrounding areas are cleaned daily. Gardens are very well maintained. I completed a questionnaire about my stay almost daily (different staff. If you get a chance you have to drop in and stay for a while.

The Studio apartment rooms are amazingly awesome.... Big and are very pleasing..... I would rate this hotel to be the best in the vicinity of Anjuna beach, Vagator beach with a good price offered by Hotel Club .... It is not a beach resort for your information..... Both the beaches are hardly 1 km from the hotel .... Anybody who wants to stay in this hotel need not to think twice, u can go ahead and make ur bookings.... The rooms and bathrooms are very very very very clean.... Enjoy and Cheers!!!!
