Stay here!!
I booked the tower but was surprised to find I was upgraded to the historic part...without even asking! It is a beautiful true five-star hotel. Even if it is a bit over your budget, I would recommend staying here. You can have breakfast watching at the sun rise while looking at boats and the India Gate out the window. It is a historic attraction itself...and you can't stay in the Taj Mahal in Agra, so stay in this one instead. Paul from Canada

Taj at Christmas time
Being Indian, we have wanted to stay at the prestigious Taj Mahal hotel ever since I could remember. We decided to stay there over the Christmas holiday break. The hotel, the service, the ambiance and the atmosphere was to die for. It started with the staff greeting us with garlands as we checked in followed by impeccable Indian hospitality service. The only reason I gave it a 4 star was that we made the mistake of not making a reservation for lunch on Christmas day and it was virtually impossible to find a place for lunch on Christmas day.

Great hotel
The Taj Palace hotel is beautiful and everything a 5 star property should be. The food is delicious and the staff is very attentive and service-oriented without being overbearing. My only gripes are that for the amount of money it costs to stay there, they should not charge for internet access. Also, the rooms in the tower are fine/nice, but small and don't give the feeling that you're staying somewhere unique/special as I'm sure the pricey palace wing rooms are.

Good Location, good service
Get car service to/from the airport, also used for a driving tour of Mumbai... Drivers were very knowledgeable and made us feel safe. When we arrived, we did not have to check in at the front desk, they already knew my name and took us right up to the room and wrote down our credit card number for incidentals. Nice service. Great breakfast buffet. Walking distance from the Gateway of India and the Elephanta caves' ferry. Close to many other South Mumbai attractions.

Taj does not dissapoint
I was in the palace tower side which was not refurbished after the tragedy. The room as nice but a little dated. Overall the hotel was great, best for atmosphere you will find in Bombay

Top of the Line
I was at the Taj during the India-Pakistan cricket match. Security was extremely tight. But inside all was very well, from poolside relaxation to a tour of the beautiful renovations since the terror attack. Bravo!

Great stay at this icon in Mumbai.
Great stay at this icon in Mumbai. Staff all very helpful and friendly. For a ' weekend special' it would have been good to have breakfast included. Free parking available but high charge for internet. It is not obvious when booking how one can book in the ' Palace' wing. All bookings put you in the Tower wing. Housekeeping service was excellent.
