Taj Mahal Palace and Tower

US hospitality businesses could take a lesson from the exceptional service provied at the Taj.

The service at the Taj is fit for a maharaja! We got an early check in & a late check-out on request at no extra cost. We received a flattering welcome with a beautiful flower garland. The check in staff could not locate our reservation on their system but were very courteous, we even received a bouquet of roses and an apology letter for this incidence later in our room. The lavish interiors of the hotel truly adds to the Taj experience. Good restaurant options, personally loved the burger and rasmalai by the pool! Finding taxis willing to run on the meter was a bit of a challenge, most drivers were opportunistic wanting to charge much more which was a bit of an issue & the bell boys outside seemed overwhelmed and therefore not very helpful!

Stayed because we wanted to experience the Taj Palace. It was over the top good, though we don't really like all the servants and service. Be warned that the gateway to India area outside the Taj is full of the typical hawkers and "free" flower/bracelet givers. Hotel went above and beyond to help coordinate things for our trip.

I booked the tower but was surprised to find I was upgraded to the historic part...without even asking! It is a beautiful true five-star hotel. Even if it is a bit over your budget, I would recommend staying here. You can have breakfast watching at the sun rise while looking at boats and the India Gate out the window. It is a historic attraction itself...and you can't stay in the Taj Mahal in Agra, so stay in this one instead. Paul from Canada

Being Indian, we have wanted to stay at the prestigious Taj Mahal hotel ever since I could remember. We decided to stay there over the Christmas holiday break. The hotel, the service, the ambiance and the atmosphere was to die for. It started with the staff greeting us with garlands as we checked in followed by impeccable Indian hospitality service. The only reason I gave it a 4 star was that we made the mistake of not making a reservation for lunch on Christmas day and it was virtually impossible to find a place for lunch on Christmas day.

The Taj Palace hotel is beautiful and everything a 5 star property should be. The food is delicious and the staff is very attentive and service-oriented without being overbearing. My only gripes are that for the amount of money it costs to stay there, they should not charge for internet access. Also, the rooms in the tower are fine/nice, but small and don't give the feeling that you're staying somewhere unique/special as I'm sure the pricey palace wing rooms are.

Get car service to/from the airport, also used for a driving tour of Mumbai... Drivers were very knowledgeable and made us feel safe. When we arrived, we did not have to check in at the front desk, they already knew my name and took us right up to the room and wrote down our credit card number for incidentals. Nice service. Great breakfast buffet. Walking distance from the Gateway of India and the Elephanta caves' ferry. Close to many other South Mumbai attractions.

I was in the palace tower side which was not refurbished after the tragedy. The room as nice but a little dated. Overall the hotel was great, best for atmosphere you will find in Bombay
