Convenient

I went there because it is across the road from Connolly Dart & rail station, and is near the Bus Aras transport hub (for the Airport). And because I wanted to be on Dublin's North Side. My room left nothing to be desired and all the staff were delightfully friendly.

Disappointing

I was disapppointed when we arrived as we asked for a double room and got a twin i.e two single beds. We rang down to reception and were told we would be changed the following day we accepted, but they did not change our room. When going for a shower, we found out the shower was not working, only cold water came out, after getting someone up to 'fix' it, we were still unable to shower as the water was now boiling hot! and finally, after being told at reception that breakfast was included, we found out when we went down to eat, that we had to pay. In the end, they tried to fob us off by giving us a 'free upgrade' for the next time we stayed, which you could get by being their friend on facebook.....it says a lot about the hotel.

Very good for its PRICE!

We stayed in one of the Premier Rooms for 7 days and it was great. The Premier Lounge offered practically every beverage and spectacular views not to mention comfortable lounge chairs. The rooms were very modern and up to date. The king sized bed was a pillow top, great for getting some rest after a long day. The hotel is within walking distance to O'Connell St (10min max) the concierge was very helpful and willing to bend over backwards. The only downside is paying for the internet every day which was 11euros for 24hrs.

Good location

It was at a good location not too far from the bus terminal to/from the airport. Rooms are outdated but pretty standard one from 1970's design. As long as it works, fine. Internet is not free and a bit slow though.

Not the best in Dublin

Although the location was not bad, we were unimpressed with this hotel. It was our least favorite of the ones we stayed at in Ireland. The staff was not very accomodating, and we did not receive the room we requested. The asked if we would like to have a double bed or two twins when we checked in, we said double and received two twins. I asked where I would be able to purchase feminine products and was directed to a store that did not sell them, The coffee machine was broken. In the morning I injured myself and needed a band-aid for bleeding, I asked the front desk and they explained that I oculd go walk and buy some at a store in the city. Not the most helpful. We asked how far Guinness was from there, and they said a 1/2 hour walk and we needed a more expensve tour ticket. Only to find out it was much closer and we didn't need them. Unimpressed

Old hotel, expensive, not all that great

The North Star Hotel was in an alright location. The room was old and dated. You had to pay 10 euro for 24 hours of internet. Our room was on the main floor next to a busy street/walkway. The walls are super thin. Just not very impressed for the price we paid compared to the other hotels we stayed at throughout Europe.

Wouldn't recommend

The location is not very good. It's on the north side of the river and I would recommend staying on the south side. The front desk staff was not very helpful. The room was not very clean (the sheets were dirty. The noise from the train is horrible.

Adequate

First time in Dublin; picked this hotel the quickest--regret that now. It was adequate. Stayed two days with my adult children. The service was so-so; the front desk was often disinterested in us. The one bright spot was the downstairs concierge... what a great guy! He was instrumental in helping us have a marvelous time in Dublin *outside* our hotel. The location was great, just wished I had researched better.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Loved the hop-on/hop-off buses in Dublin. We chose the red bus--a great and cheap way to get around w/out the hassle of a car or expense of a taxi. The ticket was good for two days!

Good deal for the price

First room was hot & couldnt shut off heat, they were kind enough to change our room to an upgrade.Easy enough to walk to town, but you are on the north side of canal which late at night can be sketchy with kids drinking in the streets,we had no problems.

Nice clean hotel with friendly

Nice clean hotel with friendly staff. 15 mins walk to Temple Bar. Handy for main train and bus station. Only problem is the rail line runs along the side of the building and a main road on the other. Despite having double glazing, it was noisey at times.
